View Full Version : Six Degrees of Black Sabbath
dreams of glass 11-04-2014, 02:17 AM a pretty neat site, it maps a path between any two artists, showing the degrees of separation.
Here's an interesting one:

have fun!
Elphenor 11-08-2014, 05:39 PM I think the game with this should be to try to rack up the highest degrees of seperation
Elphenor 11-08-2014, 05:40 PM First Attempt:
http://static.echonest.com/SixDegreesOfBlackSabbath/index.html?src_id=4687&dest_id=383
Elphenor 11-08-2014, 05:46 PM Karl Burns has apparently been in everything. If I put The Fall in he's the connection no matter what other band I put in
The exploding boy 11-08-2014, 06:25 PM I put fifteen steps between the Cure and One direction. It was a bit lame towards the end what they considered connected though
Elphenor 11-08-2014, 06:33 PM Damn there is 15 steps
Elijah Moon 11-08-2014, 06:33 PM My best was 14 steps between Guided By Voices and The Rasmus.
Elijah Moon 11-08-2014, 06:34 PM Ah, sixteen steps between Guided By Voices and Him.
The exploding boy 11-08-2014, 06:36 PM Disappointingly slayer and julio iglesias only had 11 steps.
Elphenor 11-08-2014, 06:38 PM Somehow The Cure and Joy Division have 10 steps
Elphenor 11-08-2014, 06:38 PM Ah, sixteen steps between Guided By Voices and Him.
NEW HIGH SCORE
The exploding boy 11-08-2014, 06:43 PM I put 16 between the kinks and chvrches.
I tried to think really old band and pretty recent band.
The exploding boy 11-08-2014, 06:44 PM oh wait. i thought 15 was still th ehigh score. damn
Elphenor 11-08-2014, 06:45 PM 18 steps between The Cure and Arctic Monkeys BOOOOM

Elijah Moon 11-08-2014, 07:00 PM Okay, I wasted way too much time trying to beat the top score. Now I'm stepping away.

Pretty sure that beats all your steps
slunken 11-08-2014, 10:46 PM that happens when you enter an artist that's not recognized in their database. fairly common.

Mals Marola 08-31-2015, 04:22 AM yeah i tried getting a 1-step with Smashing Pumpkins & R.E.M. expecting a simple "Mike Mills played on Siamese Dream" but instead it was some convoluted 8-part path ending with the dude who filled in for berry after he left
whatever, site's still awesome
Mals Marola 08-31-2015, 04:30 AM amazing how there are literally 3 times as many steps between two british alternative rock bands from the 00s as there are between Captain fucking Beefheart & Jennifer Lopez, though
i love that shit

Sonic Johnny 08-31-2015, 06:44 AM I hate "ironic genre change" covers so much.
Sonic Johnny 08-31-2015, 06:46 AM especially "bubblegum pop turned some kind of metal" and "breathy acoustic cover of goofy novelty song"
Sonic Johnny 08-31-2015, 06:47 AM <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/8ejeEBlDESc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
this shit makes me want to, in the words of Patton Oswalt, punch all the soy on the planet.
I hate "ironic genre change" covers so much.
Samesies.
22 steps between vampire weekend and theory of a deadman
Mals Marola 08-31-2015, 11:13 AM dreams of glass you're so fucking stupid
"what's your point"
what do you think my point is
obviously one would think there would be less steps between arctic monkeys and muse or whoever than captain beefheart and jennifer lopez. learn how to think before your next "internet venture"
dreams of glass 09-01-2015, 12:14 AM haha

myosis 09-01-2015, 01:07 AM Can't find a path between Two Gallants and The Smashing Pumpkins
Disco King 09-01-2015, 02:05 AM This isn't a record or even particularly interesting but I think I should post it because I want to fit in.

this shit makes me want to, in the words of Patton Oswalt, punch all the soy on the planet.
this is 100% genuine but i'm not sure if that is worse. it's definitely gross.
i gotta be real sturgill simpson does a cover of i promise you by when in rome that only makes it sound like a real song but i guess it fits in your GODDAMN HIPSTER CATEGORY YOU FUCKIN HIPSTER
Trotskilicious 09-01-2015, 02:45 AM obviously one would think there would be less steps between arctic monkeys and muse or whoever than captain beefheart and jennifer lopez. learn how to think before your next "internet venture"
yeah i honestly decided this thing wasn't worth a fuck if it takes that many steps to link two bands that probably party together
Cool As Ice Cream 09-01-2015, 03:11 AM yeah i honestly decided this thing wasn't worth a fuck if it takes that many steps to link two bands that probably party together
exactly.
yeah i tried getting a 1-step with Smashing Pumpkins & R.E.M. expecting a simple "Mike Mills played on Siamese Dream" but instead it was some convoluted 8-part path ending with the dude who filled in for berry after he left
whatever, site's still awesome
no, it's worthless.
Cool As Ice Cream 09-01-2015, 03:47 AM NOFX is great. A lot of their more current albums are really awesome too. Their latest one kinda sucked but Coaster and Wolves in wolves clothing are both fantastic.
I have no idea why people regard NOFX as some pathetic band to make fun of here. They've been one of the most consistent punk bands out there and they're always switching shit up and keeping things interesting.
My guess is it comes down to ignorance mostly. Anyhow, cool to see another NOFX fan here:2thumbsup:
Trotskilicious 09-01-2015, 03:50 AM the other thing is why did the arctic monkeys show up so often in the furthest steps? didn't they work with both bob rock and rick rubin? doesn't that connect you to everything ever, right there?
