maybe the rawk part wasn't written when this was recorded???
but i doubt that. it's the end of side 1.... so i'm sure this is how it's gonna stay.... mayo was also cut. Quote:

weird.
silence from an analog source (like cassette tape) usually shows up as some sort of noise under spectral analysis, but this is just pure absence of sound at the end of soma. i've attached shots of the 'silence' at the end of mayo and the silence at the end of soma. if the tape ran out on soma, they should look the same since they're both at the end of the tape, but they're not. the 'silence' at the end of mayo is a thin blue line of noise at the bottom of the spectrum. the silence at the end of soma is just that - silence. either the tape ended differently than this recording suggests, or the file was altered before being released. it looks more like a dat was unplugged while recording or something like that. and i can't understand why there's so much silence at the end... anyone else have some ideas about this? or am i just over-thinking this? ![]() i'm also a bit confused about the way the audio on the left channel always goes in and out. it's like there was a noise gate on that channel or something.... |

just so nobody thinks that i'm being a bum, i actually am declicking all the tracks as they're released.
but, i'm reaching a point where i need some input. just how much restoration is too much? do i make an effort to try to fix the 'noise gated' left channel on qaos? is it okay to restore gaps of silence? this is where i usually draw the line. i don't mind removing glitches, but i have a problem with adding sound that wasn't on the original. on the other hand, the left channel sounds like shit on several songs and tiny gaps of silence can be pretty annoying while listening to a song. does anyone have thoughts on this? |

By the way, thanks for de-clicking these. It's a lot of meticulous work, for sure. ![]() |

do what you think sounds best....
people will keep sharing "un restored" tracks no matter what... others probably plan on giving a go at restoring all the tracks as well & sharing them afterwards..... & letting the mob decide what it wants once it's all done... i'm sure their will be a 13 re-master |
