Question Dudes, how do you put a comment in a md5sum file?

I just ran md5sum on the 666 DVD and it complained that 2 files have sums that could not be found, and it's the two comments. The file looks like this:

it's telling me the two files that cannot be found are:
summer
M

How do I fix those comments or do I have to completely remove them? I wanna burn this thing. Thanks!

Oh yeah I'm using MKW to do the checking, maybe that's the problem.

Also, I checked google but didn't find anything.

Nevermind, there were additional comments on traders den that didnt make it into the txt so i'm redoing the md5 anyway to account for the new txt and I'll leave out the comments.

If you didn't burn 666 yet, the updated info according to the seeder is

Quote:
This version of the 666 video should be considered "definitive" as it is sourced from the tape provided by Don Dowdy, the friend of the former MTV employee who distributed the tapes. This DVD features two audio tracks -- one with a remastered track that is louder, EQ'd, and missing most of the tape hiss, and one with the "original" sound on the tape, completely untouched [for the nerds].

Also, I'm pretty sure that none of the previous video releases had the opening segment with Billy playing "MCIS" on the piano in his house.

Any information on the true lineage is purely speculative. All that's really known is that somehow, an MTV employee got a tape of it to Don Dowdy. Don Dowdy gave a tape to me so I could create the audio bootleg of "666" back in 1997. Unless someone gets Don Dowdy's copy of 666 from him, or somehow gets in touch with the MTV employee (who has remained anonymous), there's not going to be a better version. It's unknown how many gens passed between the master and Don.

That said, my estimate on the lineage is: Master [Camera Reel] > VHS [employee] > VHS [Don] > VHS [me].

"Setlist":

Mellon Collie & The Infinite Sadness (Billy on Piano)
The Viper
Disco Jam
Tribute To Johnny
Porcelina of the Vast Oceans
XYU (early version)
Zero (Bass & Drum tests)
Thru The Eyes of Ruby (early version)
V-8
XYU (early version)
The Black Rider
Unknown ("Rachel"?)
Zero
Chatting

Best,

-JDM

I don't know if there's a way to fix the comments in the md5 file. There probably is.

But you could as well remove the comments or just ignore the output about "summer" and "M". You didn't get any comments on the other (real) files, did you? I think this means they passed the checksum test. So burn away.

Right click the MD5, select "edit."

It will open as a .txt file and you can edit it however you like.

Just be careful...edits to the MD5 can cause more checksums that at removes.

MD5sumer always puts that comment in and most other MD5 programs don't like it. most people know to just ignore it. Also you should be able to just edit out that line and the md5 will work fine.

Thumbs up

I realize I can remove it with notepad, and that's what I did. But I had wanted to keep the file in it's original state so what I was asking is what is the proper syntax for putting a comment in, cause apparently this md5 wasn't done right cause MKW was asking where the hell those 2 files are. But anyway I just took out the comments and burned it.

Thanks for the feedback. http://forums.netphoria.org/wwwboard/icons/icon14.gif
