Anyone who was at the 2nd night of the Boston stand will tell you that it was the best of the three, hands down. I'm not saying it was the best show of the tour, but I'd like to put it out there for consideration.
Here are my reasons: 1. Two new songs to the tour on the same night that were appropriately placed. Opening with WBFTT and trying to close with LMGTWTY. -- Killer openers and closers. I know they were sound checked quite a bit but after the solid, yet pedestrian show 2 nights before to open the Boston stand this was a huge surprise. 2. Yes there were a spate of 3 encore shows o'er the course of the tour, but the crowd just wouldn't let the band leave. The "one more song!" chant with everyone standing on their chairs was just amazing. 3. Red Sox play off games. Everyone who was in that building WANTED to be there. Any douche who wanted to watch baseball was watching baseball and everyone who wanted to watch the pumpkins was there. I love the Sox but I'd rather see the Pumpkins any day of the week. 4. No GatGC. While it is a solid song, it was a bit excessive. With United States clocking in at 12min, Glass at 14+, Superchrist at 6min and Heavy Metal et al at 15+ it was a bit much for all of those songs in one set. Leaving out Glass left room for other crowd pleasers. 4a. The first song over 10 minutes long was played 20 songs into the set. 5. No Pomp and Circumstances. All SP songs grow on me with time, but this is one that is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay ahead of it's time. It's live version did nothing for me. It didn't help that Linda Strawberry called this a "shoegaze masterpiece" before the album even came out. This leads me to believe that she doesn't even own a My Bloody Valentine album and she doesn't know what a masterpiece is. 6. Even though the band closed with Cherub Rock all 3 nights of the stand, they could have played fucking French Movie Theme and I would have lost it at that point. Even though Billy's voice was clearly going, he nailed the solo and the leads. 7. Lisa's father was at the gig so they had extra reason to shine. That's my case for this show being the best. Anyone have another contender? |

I can't remember if it was Kierkegaard or not who said that saying you don't care is the first sign that you do care. Either way I love the immediate cynicism that tries to shoot down any thread on this message board. It's that pervasive attitude which has made it impossible for me to befriend anyone who has an above average affinity for the SP. Anyone into the band as much as I am tends to be a real cocksucker on the computer and lives a rather sad existence away from the online world.
I especially LOVE reading all the "I'm Starting To Love TFE" posts that are peppering this message board. Sadly, I am actually starting to pity Billy because his fans are all trapped in years past. Yes, when I hear mayonaise I get the same feeling I got as a young teenager looking at my shitty AiWA stereo from my bed thinking about how awesome the song was. Billy's albums are VERY calculated and not the least bit accidental. I can't wait to read all the posts from everyone shitting on G.L.O.W. and then 8 -16 months later those same people saying it's a masterpiece. Only Metallica has worse fans than SP. |

If not, then you are far from qualified in even making a case for which one is the best. And even then it's subjective from person to person. Hence the "no one care" sentiment everyone else is sharing. Does it make you feel special to think you were at the "best" show? Great, but don't expect everyone else to agree with you. And don't get all pissy when they expectedly don't. Christ. |
