its just tour days @ SP.com

it's a Wednesday concert.. that's pretty interesting

looks like taping this show won't be a hassel;

from the venue's webpage
Quote:
Camera/Audio/Video Policy

Every show is different. The Tennessee Theatre abides by the rules set forth by the artists and their management. Please call the Theatre at 865-684-1200 within two weeks of the event for the camera policy.
and a small venue for sure

max of 1631. and there is a "pit" section.

It's a very nice venue. I saw Medeski, Martin & Wood there a few years ago... I wish I could go to this show....

I got my ticket! Pretty good, front row balcony. I just saw Weird Al Yankovic there two days ago; great, personal venue.

Has anyone sat around the second row, front right of this theater before? Is it obnoxious and a worse view than, say, a center seat, 17 rows back?

I just looked up a single and a pair of seats in the balcony, and they're still available. Go buy them!

LOL... I was expecting SOMETHING here regarding the show. Ya know, at least the banter changes from show to show.... so that's something to look forward to when it comes to live updates.

i totally forgot there was a smashing pumpkins show last night until redbull said it was taped. even if it's the same setlist every night i sorta wish billy hadn't told anyone. at least there might be some anticipation around here.

There should be anticipation regardless.. U2 tour on the same setlist for a year straight and people go nuts in anticipation. I guess it's just a case of a different fanbase.

If you're actually at the concert it's different. For the most part, it's the same review:

-"The concert was really loud!"
-"G.L.O.W. sounded awesome!"
-"Set the Controls was too long!"
-"Kazoos!"
-"Billy was in a good mood!"
-"OMG, Billy said __________" (Insert something eerily creepy or something that no one else finds funny)

I'm not complaining about the set. I think it's an awesome selection of songs. After the Davenport show, the aftermath just isn't as exciting as last year was when there were a variety of songs being played.

The only possibly notable things were Billy playing the guitar with his teeth and kind of getting hyper and laying down while playing...but that might not be anything. I've not kept up with what he's been doing on stage recently.

Fun show, beautiful venue. Glad I went (:

Oh yeah, and I made myself not look at the setlist for any of the other shows so I'd be a little surprised, at least. Probably made it more enjoyable.

Also, I wonder if anyone taped this show? I brought my camera in case it wasn't going to be an issue, but they had signs taped up at the doors saying video and audio recording were not allowed and a bunch of security at the front checking bags and whatnot. Did anyone get the ok to tape?

The Smashing Pumpkins were never what they were promoted to be.

While the group arrived at the dawning of grunge, the Pumpkin's touchstones were from the late 1960s and early 1970s. The inspiration for the squealing guitars, the feedback, the trippy lyrics, the melodies could all be traced back to Jimi Hendrix, early Pink Floyd and an array of early prog-rockers.

On Wednesday night, the crowd at the sold-out Tennessee Theatre got a chance to experience the Pumpkins first-hand.

Two of the Chicago-founded group, singer/guitarist Billy Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, reunited in 2006 as the Smashing Pumpkins, six years after the band called it quits.

The group opened with "Tarantula" from the recent album "Zeitgeist" and followed by the new song "G.L.O.W." The true course of the evening was set on the third song, "Siva." While Corgan crooned "tell me what you're after/I just want to get there faster," he and guitarist Jeff Schroeder made the sound of tortured seagulls with their guitars. It was loud and dramatic.

As the concert continued, it became more psychedelic. Drummer Chamberlin began a furious pounding while Corgan beat his guitar and even slipped into "The Star Spangled Banner" a la Hendrix, but more aggressive and distorted, and followed by Corgan's screams.

The group added a few more peaceful numbers with Corgan playing acoustic guitar, but before Corgan kicked off the song "Once Upon a Time," from the poorly selling album "Adore," he told the crowd, "You didn't like it then, but will you like it now?"

While it wasn't bad, it didn't provide one of the stand-out moments.

However, the song "Heavy Metal Machine," which originally appeared on the generally dismissed album "Machina," did provide one of the night's great moments, complete with references to Jefferson Airplane and Emerson, Lake and Palmer.

The crowd itself provided the opening lines for the song "Today" - which was another fine moment in the show.

If the point hadn't already been proven early on, that the Pumpkins were tapping into classic rock, they cemented the deal with the show's finale and encore.

For the last number before the encore, the band tackled Pink Floyd's "Set the Control for the Heart of the Sun."

After some of the stunning workouts earlier in the evening, it was a somewhat tedious climax to an otherwise excellent show - despite Corgan swinging his guitar to get maximum feedback and leaving it in front of the amps to wear itself out.

The band concluded with an almost campfire-like sing-a-long with kazoos on Mungo Jerry's hit "In the Summertime."

The Smashing Pumpkins are one of those bands that touch a certain generation deeply. At one point in the evening, Corgan assured them, the group wouldn't go away again.

That's exactly what was missing in the previous tours, he did nothing but standing on stage stiffly without the stage performance he used to do. I think that's to a large extent what crowds were missing from the past, it looked like he's really not into it. But judging from the recent videos his old stage performances seem to be back and this also brings back a lot of energy to the shows. I really hope it will stay that way!

Besides the mentions of "poor selling Adore and Machina" ...

AWESOME!
