Since they're both from Chicago, Corgan will play Obama's Inauguaration.

Here's the setlist:
United States
As Rome Burns
Song For A Son (lyrics rewritten as Song For Obama)
Heavy Metal Machine >
>>>>Keep On Rocking In The Free World [Neil Young]
>>>>Glass' Theme
Geek USA
We Only Come Out At Night (kazoo)
Hail To The Chief (kazoo)

It'll be awesome.

yes, because we're all so feeble-minded that we need to turn to our musicians for input on politics.

no it pisses me off when anyone is so feeble-minded to not care about politics.

I'm not saying billy is apathetic but to celebrate the idea of him not giving a shit is pretty fucking stupid.

woah, a little testy are we?

I'm talking about Billy Corgan, not in general.

Edit: No he can give a shit, I just don't need to hear him preach to me about his politics...or have it effect his music.

If he supported McCain openly and at concerts, I have a feeling you wouldn't be so defensive about this.

either way, you dont need to listen to his music. hes going to do whatever the fuck he wants and doesnt care if people don't like whats influencing him, whether its god or politics, musicians make their music with what they want to, they say what they want when they want to, and if people don't like it they arent expected to care.

if he the type of person to come out openly for mccain he would not be Billy Corgan.

Anyway I'd rather someone have a preference then not give a shit.

He can keep his preferences private-- doesn't mean he's uninformed or doesn't "give a shit" You just don't go around spewing your personal politics-- famous or not-- unless you want to be universally known as an ass hat like Sean Penn or Susan Sarandon.

I agree that we don't need everyone opinion spewed around; but when he says that he chooses not to participate in an election because America is so fucked up('04 election) that's not helping any one.....

You see..I WANT to listen to his music. But I'd rather he stay away from the politics. Zeitgeist was vague enough in political terms to not turn me off.

if anyone ever came up to me after a show and told me that they wish i didnt say a certain thing or wish id done everything in their way instead of mine, id punch them in the face and im not even slightly famous. can you imagine how many people want billy to do things their way? if he turns you off thats just too bad for you. you want to listen to his music so you should learn to put up with what comes with that instead of complaining when he mentions thats hes proud of a moment of history in our country.

There is a very political/social aspect to art and anyone who wants to steer an artist away from recognizing this is an idiot.

Edit: I feel like people who don't like it when artists get political are looking to be entertained more than they are looking to be challenged.

I think that when a person enjoys the art/product, when it comes packaged in a set of viewpoints or beliefs contradictory to their own the competing feelings produced make them feel extra awkward and uncomfortable. Whereas if they totally agree with them it will most likely just reinforce their enjoyment.

Anyway, I reckon Spfission is more "genX" whereas dudehitscar is more "genY"? Supposedly GenX is far more circumspect about politics and political figures in general, and the real value of getting involved with any of it.

Also, there is such a thing as being "apolitically political." Billy always struck me as being like that--outspoken but directed to no specific person.

Billy is far, far, more informed about politics than many outright "political" musicians, like say, Eddie Vedder.

This is asinine. Corgan has said virtually nothing of any substance about his political beliefs/opinions, so you have practically no basis on which to found the argument that he's either a political savant or a drooling idiot.
