Default Egg-on-ya-face!!!

I bet those of you on this board who have expressed your disgust with TFE are going to regret doing so. Mark my words; one year from now you’ll all have egg-on-your-faces because you will rate this album among Corgan's finest.

All of you who claim to be so in-tune with Corgan's 'genius' clearly are clueless as to what has made his music good in the past. The songwriting on this album is at a level no lower than any of Corgan's previous works. Make no mistake, TFE is the most complete 'album' Corgan has written in ten years.

I LOVE ADORE and my favourite Corgan song is off that particular album. But to rate it as the best pumpkins album, as many of you do, is completely insane. It clearly is not their best piece of work. Don’t agree?.. Just ask Billy himself. Anybody who does not consider MCIS as the ultimate smashing pumpkins album clearly has missed what the pumpkins were/are all about… again, don’t agree? just ask the band members themselves.

The pumpkin’s sound had nothing to do with ‘screetching guitars’ or octave chords, it was ‘an atmosphere’ that only they could create. You cannot tell me that zero, mayonnaise and tonight tonight sound the same, yet they are all distinctly pumpkin sounding.

Mina loy & Walking Shade are just as menacing, ‘heavy’ and unique as Zero or Where boys fear to tread (a track which they opened most MCIS shows with: ie. the band obviously identified with the song’s sound). All things change is as spacey, dreamy and original as By starlight.
DIA, cameraeye, i'm ready all have that same grandiose urgency that songs such as tonight tonight, stand inside your love, and geek usa all had... Yes all of these songs sound different but are of a similar vein, you just have to listen.

Like the pumpkin’s best work, TFE has a sound that is not earthly. Corgan sounds focused once again, the way he did on Siamese Dream. Trust me, by shelving this album you’re missing out on the true ‘return-to-form’ of our musical idol.

who are you talking to? what are you saying? is it anything useful that will change anyones mind or make one take a different listen? do you really think this long post you probably spent half an hour perfecting would make people respect you?

Seriously though. I agree totally, I fucking love this album so much and when I get excited about music and it touches me, it makes me want to make tell the world about it. That is the power of the music.

On the other hand, some people don't feel music, so everthing is intellectualised to them. They cannot see that indescribable, inherant beauty in things. It's all "Crappy riff, boring drums" to them. So they think that they're appreciating or feeling a song but really their limited mind is focussing on one obvious element of the music that apeals to, and because this album features very few of those hooks, it's going over a lot of people's heads.

On the third hand, some people just don't dig it! You have got to respect people's opinions sometimes!

I looked out the window and seen his bald head
I ran to the fridge and pulled out an egg
Scoped him with my scopes he had no hair
Launched that shot and he was caught out there
Saw the convertible driving by
Loaded up the slingshot and let one fly
He went for his to find he didn't have one
Put him in check correct with my egg gun
The egg a symbol of life
Go inside your house and bust out your wife
Pulled out the jammy he thought it was a joke
The trigger I pulled his face the yoke
Reached in his pocket took all his cash
Left my man standing with an egg moustache
Suckers they come a dime a dozen
And when I say dozen you know what I'm talking about
Humpty Dumpty was a big fat egg
He was playing the wall and then he broke his leg
Tossed it out the window three minutes hot
Hit the Rastaman he said *bloodclot*
Which came first the chicken or the egg
I egged the chicken then I ate his leg
Riding the trains in between cars
When I pull out the station *you're gonna get yours*
Drive by eggings plaguing L.A.
*Yo they just got my little cousin ese*
Sometimes hard boiled sometimes runny
It comes from a chicken not a bunny dummy
People laugh it's no joke
My name's Yauch and I'm throwing the yoke
*Now they got me in a cell* but I don't care
It was then that I caught catching people out there
We all dressed in black we snuck up around the back
We began to attack the eggs did crack on Haze's back
Sam I am down with the program
Green eggs and ham Yosemite Sam
Come Halloween you know I come strapped
I throw it at a sucker K-pap
You made the mistake you judge a man by his race
You go through life with egg on your face
You woke up in the morning with a peculiar feeling
You looked up and saw egg dripping from the ceiling
Families puck rocks the businessman
I'll dog anybody with an egg in my hand
Not like the crack that you put in a pipe
But crack on your forehead here's a towel now wipe

My first thought was more towards redecorating this thread in warm, rustic cabin-style decor. So here's a new rug:

I remember when people said this sort of nonsense about Zwan; has the general Netphorian perception of Zwan's CD risen since it's release? No? Didn't think so.

I hated Zwan's album until I listened to it about 100 times online, then I decided to buy it. It took me several listens before I liked TFE, but I now love most of it.

I had the same reaction to Machina. When I first listened to it, I thought it was horrid. But, I really grew to love it after that.

I'm starting to think that this is a trend with Billy's music. Personally, I loved every album up until Machina instantly. But with every album since, my first reaction to it was "this is garbage". Then I started to like it more after repeated listenings. It's kind of a strange phenomenon, IMHO.

there are a few really good tracks on TFE (camera eye, now and then, walking shade, tilt and mini are great too), but as a whole album, it isnt' a whole, its a collection of songs that don't seem to have much to do with one another, then a general similar palette of sounds... in other words boring. lyrics and breaking the barrier of the typical song skeleton are lacking, something corgan has typically done a very good job with (even on Mary Star, which in comparison to TFE is a masterpiece). I just want to see something different for a change, I'm done with musicians who are just rehashing (which corgan did a good job of not doing on TFE, but the songs just came out subpar, i have a feeling he had worked very hard on other material which got put off, and rushed the shit out of this, maybe not). in a way i'm sure he realizes, he is so far removed from the life he once had, the life that led for experiences that inspired him to write songs so well for the pumpkins... his life isn't tortured anymore, he is a rich rock star, his point of view isn't the same anymore, and trying to have people to relate to him requires him to go back to far more rudimentary common sentiments which just aren't as striking when presented in his work.
