its not what i expected.. I thought it would be less....upbeat...but I need a few more listens to judge it...However, my initial reaction is that it is not a 'great' song, mediocre to good at best.

I hate to compare it to the past, but as far as singles go...... listen to thirty three then tell me which song gives you chills down your spine. I just don't get the same emotional feedback from Walking Shade.

I love it. I think it's got a very nice melody, and I bet that there's a lot of neat little instrumental bits hidden beneath all that radio fuzz; for example, the just-audible Cure-ish "plinking" and some nice warm harmonies in the chorus.

Default i have heard the entire song and I disagree.

I like it. It is way different, buit change isn't always bad. Open you mind and enjoy new music from a musical genius. It is nice to hear a fresh style from him. Go Billy!

Just listened to it.

I must be in the minority here... I actually like it. It's not perfect, and there are things I think I'd like to be different about it, such as the opening vocals not being so boring-sounding. But yeah, this is definitely another taste of something that really doesn't sound anything like anything he's done before.

Here's my take. This album doesn't seem like it's supposed to be taken as seriously as Pumpkins records. It's supposed to be a fresh sound for his audience to enjoy. You're supposed to enjoy it. If you can only enjoy music when it's as heavy and deep as Adore, or Mellon Collie, then this record probably isn't for you.

...and I think most people who are Pumpkins/Billy fans can't except that. I think it's hard for Billy fans to understand a world where Billy makes music that doesn't reflect their taste. So haters of this song seem to me to be people who are disappointed that he didn't "snap out of it" and make another Siamese Dream, or Adore. I think they see his Pumpkins work as his best, and it probably was. I think it was. So if you can't enjoy anything of his that's outside of the heavy-bubble, don't buy this record. But I also think this record could be tight to have on in the car while driving... to not have it carry such a heavy persona whenever I listen to it, even if it's not his best work.

In the 80's, there wasn't a whole lot of music that the audience was supposed to take in, and absorb, and pick apart in the darkness of their bedroom, and cry to, and relate to, and be inspired by, etc. So listen to TFE as an album that's just about a tight 45 minutes of music that entertains you. It works better that way.

seriously, I'd wait until you guys hear a good, clean version of the song before you draw heavy opinion. From what I hear [basic levels of like or dislike] is that I like it. It's different from what he's done before.

actually, you're definitely being harsh in naming this subject "Walking Shade is Horrible." It's really not. It's not what you expected....but there's really nothing about the song that makes it "horrible."

It's not THAT different, I find both songs to sound Machina-esque.

I can't understand why so many people want to put the cart before the horse here. I would assume that what brought us this far was an appreciation of SP's music, first and foremost. So why is it repeatedly made out to be a travesty when anyone suggests that maybe this recent music ain't so hot? Somehow, this attitude means we're "stuck in the past" and "need to learn how to appreciate new music." I listen to new music from almost every single kind of genre all the time - this is not about being closeminded towards exploring new directions in music. It is however about realizing that I didn't start listening to the pumpkins back in the day because of someone named Billy Corgan; I listened to them because the music they made was the shit and it just so happend that Billy was the one behind it all. If for whatever reason, his music is no longer as wonderful as it once was, then there shouldn't be a problem in saying so.
What's going on here is plain ol celebrity worship. I say love Billy all you want, but the music should be allowed to speak for itself. I'll only force myself to listen to something so long before I decide I just don't like it - and I'm not going to make exceptions just cuz it's you know who. (and as if you couldn't tell by now i'm not a fan of waking shade)

yup. hating on the newbies. it's like netphoria's mccarthyism, even though it's all quite relative and post counts can be woefully deceiving. i should say - i've only been coming here since 96. but I never post, so I wonder what that makes me?

This is why I wanted this album to leak instead of a song at the time like it's happening right now... Also, you people should calm down, wait for a better version of the song (with no fuckin DJs or bad quality sound) and also I think these songs will be valued within the context of the album.

My opinion for now is that I like it, it's very catchy and I really think this album will be amazing from what I heard in these songs that leaked.

yes the album should be leaked completed.......A100 was a fukin good tune....but this walking shade is a fukin shame . sorry guys, its nothing... it repetitive and its baddly repetitive.....and im trying to think why corgan´s lyrics nowadays goes always around love and love and love...my god he wants to change, but the love love love love keeps repeting....like "i just want u so...." like 20 times in 2 minutes.....really cant understand!!!! On a last apreciation it looks like a karaoke thing of a asong by "the killers" (i like them)......for me, the worst corgan (sp+zwan) song ever......and by the way ...A100 fukin rules!!!!!!!!!
