Default With Teeth has leaked

well, not really leaked. The promos have obviously been sent out this week.

I've listened to half of it so far, I want a word for below-below-below-average. is there one? oh yeah - dull

np: all the love in the world

It's a pretty good song. I love the piano and vocals at the end.

Sunspots and Love is Not Enough are probably the best songs. I also love The Fragile and this somewhat like that vein of music. The guitars and live drums are very powerful.

i love NIN, but the song The Hand That Feeds is pretty underwhelming to me.

Oh jeez this is really really forgettable. Most of the tracks are testorone diaherrea rock, and a very bland and dry type of it at that. And when he veers off this course is the only time we get a few decent tracks (the first one is nice and unfortunately the best track on the album). Only has some disco shit going on but even then still sounds like a second rate !!!. And the closing track is a decent piano ditty but one only needs to compare that song to Hurt to see how uninspired he sounds these days. Say what you want about his lyrics but at least it felt like he meant them. On this album he's just going through the motions.

Yeah I felt like these things were always very minor flaws in his previous work, magnified on With Teeth. But the single major problem here is that there was WAY MORE depth sonically in his previous works then there are here. i mean they were so deep sonically, there was always something going on in his music that made it really neat. here we are just treated to smae lame guitar riffs and some standard live drums. very rarely we get the piano line, manipulated synths or anything other thing that could be interesting. He phoned these songs in. anyway i had to type this all out cause i waited 6 years for this and it is huge total fucking disappointment.

Seeing as how alot of people dislike it due it being simple rock, I think I'll like it.

Yeah, I decided to give it a chance keeping in mind that I already know its going to be dissappointing.

I thought he should have taken the instrumental parts of The Fragile and made an entire album sounding like that. But then he announced that its going to be very short concise rock songs...ehhh.

I agree with Julio; the lyrics on this album just sound ten times as cliche'd. Its like all the parts in Downward Spiral and The Fragile that made you roll your eyes....compiled on one album. He even uses 'nothing can stop me now' again. Lame. Oh, and using a song title as lyrics in a different song (see The Line Begins To Blur)....that's really really lame. Sorry it is.

Maybe I need to listen to it with headphones but yes it does lack all of the little nuances that made all of his other albums interesting, layered and cool. There are still parts of these songs that keep my interest though, like the middle of "You Know What You Are?" with that repetitive drum beat and muted melody thing, and the very end with the looped synths and keyboard part - that's neat. If he could have extended those quiet parts it would have been beautiful.

It just feels forced - how can he still be this angry and depressed? Its been 11 years. You either heal or kill yourself but you can't be continually this self destructive and still relevant. There seems to be little progress musically and emotionally. If I wanted sad and angry I would just listen to The Downward Spiral. It was done better.

the trouble with trents music is that he know he's not going to attract people who aren't already in his fanbase. he's attempting to do something different within the narrow context of his previous work.

i'd say this is the case with bands like weezer and green day. two bands who became immensely popular in their wreckless youth and when it came time for them to grow up, they didn't know how. thats how you end up with shit like maladroit and american idiot. they tried being more mature within the context of their previous work, and it just plain didn't work.

billy corgan consciously made a decision to say 'fuck the pumpkins, they are in the past, i'm going to be a big gay happy motherfucker now' and well...i needn't say anymore about how that turned out.

point is, it's a lose-lose situation. trent can either be 100% true to himself as an artist and gain minimal exposure and get in deep shit with his record company for making something that wont sell...or he can try doing something he simply can't do very well at all almost entirely for the sake of minimizing losses.

bleh.
