The crowd was chanting something and the announcers were talking about "there's that distasteful chant again."

Woog, as you call him, was definitely talking about peaking and Mazzacco was like "you can't peak yet!" Or something to that effect. It was fantastic.

when there was about 5 min left in the game it just completely deteriorated, oh man.

as for tasteless chants, there are so many that the student section does at those games i don't even know where to start.

let's see:

when an opposing team member goes to the box, the band does a drum beat, the crowd makes siren/whoop whoop noises to it, then the drums drop out and the crowd yells the following (accompanied by arm motions mimicking ref signals):

"YOU! you're outta here, ya hack! YOU SUCK! you worthless piece of SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT! (many crowd members carry out the last word there until they run out of breath.)"

or, as a part of a certain mini-fight-song the band plays, the crowd chants:

"eat 'em up, beat 'em up, shove it up the crease KILL! RAPE! PILLAGE! BURN! KILL!RAPE!PILLAGE!BURN! EAT BABIES! (_insert opposing mascot name here_)-BABIES!"

or, if the team is in dire need of a goal, this awesome old lady who's been going to games for years, and who has the loudest, most crowd-noise piercing voice i've ever heard, starts this chant:

lady: gimme an S!

crowd: S!

lady: gimme an E!

crowd: E!

lady: gimme and X!

crowd: X!

lady: what's that spell?!

crowd: SEX!

lady: WHAT'S. THAT. MEEEEEEEEEAN!??!

go for it

the games are usually officially sold out, but there's always some standing room only tickets available. at the box office before the game. grab one of those and you'll have a spot along the railing around the top of the arena. the views aren't bad from there at all, but keep an eye on what empty seats aren't ever occupied during the first period/intermission, and you should be fine to go sit in them for the last two periods. there are student sections on either end of the arena, the bigger one being below the band, above the zamboni doors, so if you want the full experience you might wanna look for a spot nearby either of those. and i'm sure you already know this, but remember to follow the #1 hockey spectating rule, don't come or go from your seats unless there's a play stoppage.
