Default art reality show

Almost no one here will care, and not even I care much, but I figured I could post it.

REALITY TV FINALLY REACHES THE ART WORLD: "It came long ago to the worlds of music ("American Idol"), moviemaking ("Project Greenlight") and fashion design ("Project Runway"). Now reality television is finally tackling the art world, one of the last creative frontiers still unvisited by the genre's camera crews, harsh judges and hordes of contestants hoping to turn a little fame into a lucrative career." The New York Times 03/02/05

considering the results of similar projects in the music and movie categories (which funnily enough are also art forms), chances that the results of this won't be utterly shit are very small indeed.
i love how this article talks about "one of the last creative frontiers still unvisited by the genre's camera crews" and how the people that enter will be motivated by money. art for money's sake is such a great concept.

Thing is, how many people watch the music ones for the artistic merit? A lot of it's the entertainment of watching people make a fool of themselves, a lot of it's the 'drama and heartache' angle, and music in general is much more immediate and popular than 'art' - especially since it tends to be less about a performance. I guess you could level this at the fashion one (which I haven't seen) but is art popular enough for this to be geared towards a similar demographic?

lol, yeah

and it's funny how almost NO reality contest winners (i.e. next top model, americal idol) seem to have any staying power. except for kelly clarkson, who lost a few pounds so now people are paying attention to her again.
