Unhappy I think my dog is about to die

he vomited a few times last night and I thought maybe it was just a tummy bug and he'd be ok. before I heard him making these really weird cough/burp sounds and when I picked him up off the couch and put him on the ground he couldn't walk. then he shat diarrehea all over the floor, now he is just sort of lying there after I gave him some water

poor Duffy
he is 17 yrs old tho

it might be a stomach virus, but he's had those before and usually just throws up and keeps on walking. this time he can't even stand up

You should probably find out. It could be something that you can catch early...but if you wait he could die. Although since he's 17 years old (GOD DAMN!)...I doubt its anything that wouldn't put him through a few more years of agony, so maybe it would just be best to put him down if you do go to the vet and they say its something serious.

Good luck, but just remember that you have to do what's best for HIM. If that means putting him down to take him out of his misery, then that's what you have to do.

I'm sorry to hear.

update! I got him to the vet earlier and they took some blood for a few tests. they say if nothing serious shows up in the blood he'll still need some minor operation (or just be put under anaesthetic) and have something done around areas of his gums. there's something wrong with his teeth and gums that's causing an infection down his throat.

so yeah luckily not as dramatic as it seemed last night. after I brought him home from the vet he actually ran up the steps and jumped up on the couch to go to sleep. weird

the vet did say he was showing signs of kidney failure, which apparently spells the end for old dogs, since it leaves them in alot of pain while they're still alive. so if the tests come back that there's kidney trouble or cancer, anything like that, I think it'd be best to put him to sleep. 17 is pretty damn old after all

another update:

blood test results came back and it seems he has cancer, or a tumor on the liver to be more precise. the vet said he's probably in some serious pain and even though they could do an ultrasound and perhaps even attempt a costly operation it still probably wouldn't save him. the blood suggested he's had the tumor for a long while. so I'm taking him to be put to sleep tomorrow or monday of they're not open.

I'm going to miss the little fella
