I liked the first two thirds of the movie so much and I absolutely felt cheated after the big revelation that I had a hard time enjoying it. The concept was very good and it was done pretty well, but that plot twist did not belong in this movie. It would have been much better if the monsters had been real in my opinion. Not only that, but my faith in the movie was restored for a short time when the "monster" appeared behind...what was her name...Ivy. After that I felt doubly cheated. Don't go see this movie if you think it is supernatural in any way shape or form.

About two-thirds through I wanted to get up and walk away. Shyamalan needs to stop writing movies simply so he can add twists in them, which this one clearly was written for.

I actually agree with you for once. Signs pissed me off so bad i.e. when the kids are smarter then the adults and they're the one's making the decisions... Shitty writing

Yeah, I thought it was absolutely horrible. The cinematography was kinda nice here and there. But man. That guy has no bussiness writing scripts.

I noticed that Joaquin Phoenix was unloading firewood in the house early in the film, but if they can't go into the woods where does the fire wood come from?

I like how Roger Ebert in his review "Everyone in the village does everything together, apparently, although it is never very clear what most of their jobs are. Some farming and baking goes on."

I liked it anyway, M. Night can evoke moods like no one since Hitchcock.

I forgot about the greatest line in the whole movie:

You know, that kind of attitude is often seen as extremely cocky by people, whether they are successful or not.

You're wanker, that's all.

i actually thought it was a good movie. sure it was predictable, but i enjoyed the performances and the storyline anyway. i thought it was (as always) beautifully shot and had some real nail-biting scenes in it.

i wish though, that shyamalan didnt feel that he has to give us a twist ending every time.

Did anyone else see that microphone drop into the shot? Near the end... The scene when all of the elders were in the dude's "hospital" room and Ivy comes back to give him the medicine she got.... A round gray thing kept dropping several inches into the shot.

The thing is, the actors, especially the young ones, couldn't sell the dialogue. It was written for actors like William *pause* Hurt. The scene with Kitty talking about love was just embarrassing. It was like my high school production of The Crucible all over again.

I noticed this too. I have to admit, I'm pretty naive when it comes to figuring out movies, so I didn't figure the twist out until it was fully revealed. But I definitely picked up on the language thing--it seemed fishy at first. So for a while I just thought the script was terrible. My friend said he figured the movie out when he noticed them saying "the people we don't speak of," when someone at that time would have said "the people of whom we don't speak."

In the end, though, I really thought it was a neat movie. Maybe that's because I'm naive and fell for it; so be it. I was expecting a twist, but not anything like what it really was. I thought it was great.

If you go expecting a horror film or to be scared, you aren't going to like it. If you enjoy early American literature, particularly novels that draw upon Puritanism and Romanticism (Romanticism, not romanticism), you very well might enjoy it.

I thought it was amazing. I want to go out and see it again. The ending might have been better if it had ended sooner (i.e. right when she climbed over the wall). However, it is M. Night Shamwhatever's style to explain the twist. He never leaves any loose ends. Everything is fully explained for you. You don't really leave the theatre with any unanswered questions.

The weak story didn't support the movie's conceit, and so the entire thing (not just the ending) just left you feeling flat. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, and nowhere near as bad as "Signs," but it was OK at best.

I saw the movie last night, and I enjoyed it quite a bit, especially after the ushers kicked out a group of fat, annoying people who laughed inappropriately and yelled things at the screen during. every. scene.

Anyhow, I had pretty much figured out the ending about halfway through, but the thing I liked about it was that there was just enough in the movie to keep me from being 100 percent sure. I thought Shymalan usuing his obligatory director's cameo to explain the loose ends was a nice touch. But it was funny hearing a lot of the people around me who just totally missed the twist when it happened, and were left saying 'WTF?' when the movie ended. It surprising that such a "beat into your head" sort of ending could still go over the heads of some people.

Actually, the coolest shot in the movie was when you saw Shymalan's reflection in that glass. 'Twas a neat little Hitchcockian homage.

i loved it. the social commentary was pretty translucent, but im smart and i pick up on these things easily.

I also loved the twist. and its not supposed to be scary, jeez. the only horror movie he ever made was sixth sense.

potential spoilers

about the ending - im glad it wasnt elaborate - it wouldve subtracted from the movie. i admired the abrupt ending where they all decide to continue living their lie. the abruptness made it so there wasnt really any room to make it tragic nor happy. it let the viewer decide whether it was a good or bad thing that they continued living out their lie which would be contingent upon the viewer's opinion about whether or not its justifiable to lie to protect a way of life (which ties back to the social commentary) and that was the best thing about the movie

I agree. Overall, it was a good movie. But it didn't acheive much as a "scary" movie. I think it would've been better if there hadn't been that cheesy little twist, though.
