What the bit in the scene originally said was:

EMPEROR: We have a new enemy. Luke Skywalker.

VADER: Yes, my master.

EMPEROR: He could destroy us.

VADER: He's just a boy. Obi-Wan can no longer help him.

---------

anyway, here's what it says now:

-------

EMPEROR: We have a new enemy. The young Rebel who destoryed the Death Star. I have no doubt this BOY is the offspring of Anakin Skywalker.

VADER: How is that possible?

EMPEROR: Seach your feelings, Lord Vader. You will know it to be true. He could destroy us.

VADER: He's just a boy. Obi-Wan can no longer help him.

------

I dig it. I love the usage of "BOY" and "OFFSPRING of Anakin Skywalker". Makes Luke seem like a piece of shit and Anakin dead and burried.

That and Ian McDirmond rules.

Not too sure about the Jango Fett voice overs, though. "He's no good to be DEED!" with the Austrialian accent sounds pretty lame.

Someone should really edit Star Wars together with all the best bits from the different editions.

Any idea what the original dialogue was? Did JEJ have to rerecord anything?

i read somewhere that since the series' inception, lucas intended star wars to be a work in progress...i think its cool that he is trying to make the film cutting edge for each generation.

if they hadn't realeased those special editions 8 years ago then i probably would have never seen it.

I posted the original dialouge above and I got the sound loop to work. (the original lines was just "we have a new enemy, Luke Skywalker." "Yes, my master" "He could destroy us").

Sounds damn sure like James Earl Jones to me. Probably got him to say it when he was in to do some dialouge for Episode 3. though the inflection of the voice is different from the way Vader's voice sounds throughout the rest of ESB. (but if you listen to ANH, ESB and ROTJ Vader's voice sounds slightly different in all 3 movies)

I like the fleshing out of the Anakin / Luke stuff in the scene. Has some very creepy undertones and its only, like, 3 lines. I like "the offspring of Anakin Skywalker" as opposed to "Luke Skywaler" because it reduces Luke to just a THING they have to get at. I dig it, personally. This isn't Greedo shooting first ROTJ dance sequence bullshit.

Didn't they release the original versions on laserdisc or something that somebody could transfer to DVD? If not, there's always that VHS set. I guess people have done it already and sold it on eBay. I like the improvements that make things look less fake, and the other things I probably wouldn't even notice since I'm not a major fan. But I don't like that he takes out frames where people get shot with lasers like in that comparison video I found. Shitty!

I'm not saying this is a good change because the other one looked "fake" or "shitty" I'm saying its a good change because Ian McDirmond ownz. Also the difference between the look/sound of the Emperor from ESB to ROTJ has been bugging me since I was, like, 5 years old.

I didn't know they changed him between those two movies. But the vid looks 10000x better than that shot.

Yah, they used a completely different actor for ESB, took an old lady, matted some monkey eyes onto it and dubbed in some british guy's deep voice. Aside from the cloak its 100% different from McDirmond's look and crackly aged voice of doom from ROTJ. Bugs the hell out of me. That and Ian McDirmond could just ooze 100 times more cool with one word than that whole old sequence put together.

Ahahah so they took the frog version and just replaced his scenes in ESB with Ian McDirmond? That's pretty rad. He better get a good paycheck for acting in another movie.

Did he not make an appearance in the first one, I don't remember (A New Hope).

Nope. The only reference is Tarkin saying "I've just recieved word that the Emperor has disolved the council permanently." There were rumors floating around that there was a sequence of said council disolving, with the Emperor, being inserted into ANH but since that hasn't surfaced, and the DVDs are out there now with a few people, it probably isn't in there.

There was also rumors of a new CGI'ed up Vader/Obi-Wan fight for Ep.4 but that hasn't come out either so I'm pretty sure its not going to be in the DVDs either.

There's always 2007, though, the 30th Star Wars aniversary. You can bet damn skippy they'll be some sort of release then. (probably a full 6 movie star wars box set or somethin'. Maybe all the extreme changes will pop up then)
