I don't know bout the rest of the world, but when def maybe came out, oasis were pretty much the beatles in britain..They were fuckin huge, cause they were 4 pommy 'lads' who liked to screw and get pissed and play rock and roll. They were a massive crossover band (more than sp) and had indie kids and geezers hand in hand singing live forever. After that they got fat and rich.

I was an Oasis fan as a kid, definitely. some of their songs are definitely worth something to me, however, I don't give a fuck about any 90s band that wants to be the Beatles because it'll never happen. The guys in the band are all cocksuckers and they're not half as talented as they talk and that should be obvious. Fuck the press, too, for covering this bullshit.

They rule. They used to rule more than they do now but they were the biggest band in the world at one point.

They are way better than Modest Mouse or any of this hipster pseudo rock shit coming out these days full of kids that can't sing or hardly play their instruments.

:HOMO:

Well, actually, the guitar work for the "hipster pseudo rock shit"--I think of it as angular guitar playing--is much more complex and difficult to execute than the simple chords and progressions that constitute 90% of all Oasis songs. I mean c'mon, Noel just kept playing the same guitar solo spread over 4 albums! I think Modest Mouse is boring as hell, but even I will admit that their musicianship far surpasses anyone in Oasis. Try listening to the pAper chAse--the guitar work will blow your mind!

And they're fucking fantabulous live. Personally, I am loving all this 10 year stuff and I can't fucking wait for the Definitely Maybe dvd and the other stuff. And "Stop Crying Your Heart" is one the greatest fucking songs ever.
Heathen Chemistry and Standing On The Shoulders of Giants were fucking god awful. The downfall of Oasis was letting Liam write songs and letting Noel sing more than two on an album...

Oh no. Radiohead should not have been brought up as a comparison to OASIS of all bands.

And no it's not true.

It sucks when a band makes a really cool album and you really like it and then they make another that's completely different and "experimental" or "pushing boundaries." I didn't start listening to Radiohead til last year, but I ended up really liking The Bends. Awesome album!

I don't have to like experimental stuff just because it's pushing the boundaries and revolutionary or whatever.

No, I mean Kid A and Amnesiac are just plain awesome albums on their own right, besides the fact that they're completely different from Radiohead's previous stuff.

meh but if you don't like 'em I guess that's just your loss

What you dont have the right to do is compare a bad brit pop cover band to a real band. Like I said Oasis stole everything. If it was'nt a beatles song, it was a Bowie song, if it was'nt a bowie song it was fucking COKE JINGLE.

That's what I'm saying. Since they're so different, I would naturally prefer one style over the other. And I prefer the more rocking, less experimental style. I'm not saying they're bad albums, I bought them recently. But I don't prefer them to The Bends.

Don't get what? As in don't buy it, or as in I'm too stupid to 'get it'?

Cause it's all about personal preference.

I was being facetious.

I hate that damn argument. Anyone who uses that argument, IMO, is basically waving a sign saying, "I'm pretentious."

You've just stated the general consensus of this board. When has rock music, REAL rock music, been met with anything with contempt on this board?

And goddamn it, read between the lines. I wasn't being serious. I don't like the argument, "If you don't like it, you just don't get it." It's a pretentious argument that so-called 'elitists' often use to justify their self-indulgent, pseudo-sophisticated interest in certain forms of art that most with any sense of normal taste finds just weird for the sake of being weird.
