I'm American, I deal with people saying they hate American's all the time. I hate Osama for acting on it, but even HE is entitled to his opinion. i'm sorry, but all these reasons are rubbish, absolute rubbish.

a, other religions do not have the same view on the afterlife. most other religions stress the afterlife. christianity goes so far as to do the plato thing with 'this world doesn't really matter' what does jesus say? 'god's kingdom is not of this world' or something. the torah has 613 commandments. the vast majority are directed at conduct on this earth. ethical standards are key to judaism, this world is the most important, and the afterlife does NOT come into play. you can't say 'other religions have the same views' because most of them don't.

b), i didn't choose the religion, i was born with it and raised with a certain philosophy of the world ingrained in my sense of being. and even if i DID choose it, who's to say the process of choosing a religion that corresponds to your beliefs is so incredibly wrong? i think it's a perfectly valid means of acting. omar sort of introduced me to gnosticism which i'd like to do more reading on but initially i find it very spiritually fulfilling and even comforting...i should really buy a book or something.

and it makes sense to ME, and proof isn't necessary. that's all.

Let me go out on a limb on that tangent and say that though I don't like Isreal and its politics, feeling that they're as terrorist-oriented as those actions of Palestine, and though I also think that they use anti-sematism as a way of avoiding absolutely any responsibility... I don't hate Jews. I'm sure I've met perfectly wonderful Jewish people who will give money to a man on the street for a loaf of bread. As far as this thread goes, I'm pretty much with kypper. People *can* cry antisemitism at any opportunity for their own political purposes, a la Israel and the ADL, but it just ends up making a joke of real serious discrimination. As far as judging people goes... everyone is different, and you can't make accurate blanket statements based on one shared attribute. You could say you dislike a particular denomination of a religion (if you had fully educated yourself on the subject, you could extend that to an entire religion) but that wouldn't be a reason to hate the people who held those beliefs. It's like people who watch crappy tv shows - you may hate the fact that they like it, but is that one thing a valid reason to dislike them?
