actually it's really interesting to compare the structure of the songs from his top Pumpkin days (like Ruby or For Martha) with the ones from now.
Do you remember that song Girl with a Cruel Face? He's using like one chord progression for the whole duration of the song, which is quite long.

But you can't say those songs get any worse. It looks like the man has chosen simpler, but sometimes also more effective way.
