Lightbulb anybody play poker on a regular basis?

i told my friends i'd play once a month; i'm not much of a gambler and i don't have that much $

but they play about twice a week, texas hold em, there's a $20 buy in and they play for about 6 to 8 hours

so yesterday we had a snow day so i said hell i'll play

i won $17 pretty badass

would've had $53 but on the third to last hand, my buddy took $33 from me

i had a flush, king high...there were 3 hearts face up and i held 2 hearts (the king and 2)...he went "all in" so i took $33 of my chips and put them in b/c there was only 1 card in the deck that could beat my flush draw...the Ace of Hearts

he had it

anybody else play?

I haven't played in years, but I'm thinking of starting a Sunday night poker game at my place once a month.

I played once in January. I was stage managing a play with an all-male cast and we had a poker night. It was awesome. We didn't play for money though. And interestingly enough, as a group of actors, we all had the worst poker faces EVER.

I even won two hands.

My buddies and I play on occasion. We usually play Texas Holdem', but some bastard always wants to play In Between. That game will kill you.

I play semi-regularly. I refuse to play in a casino very often, because it's not as fun, you're taking money form other players and not the house, and you're basically just paying the casino to deal the cards, which is kind of dumb. I'd rather play Blackjack or craps.

Anyway, it used to be more regularly, but yeah, I do play as often as I can.

mpp, I'd have gone all in with that hand as well. You made the right move.

Thanks.

I felt really fucking stupid because I knew the game was going to be over in 10 minutes (we set a time limit). I just thought "only one card in the deck can beat me and if he has it then so be it." There was no possibility for a four of a kind and there was no straight draw (ergo, no straight flush draw).

And I didn't have to go "all in." I just had to put in $28 to call his "all in."

My friends and I play Texas Hold 'Em about once a week. We have $10 buy-ins, and there's usually 9 to 10 of us playing. Until a certain point (maybe midnight) we allow $5 buy backs...so that makes the pot pretty nice.

I came in second once, and third once, but never won the big pot yet.

What's the best hand/biggest pot you've seen?

Last time I played (in January sometime), my buddy had pocket Jacks and my other buddy had pocket Queens. In the flop, a queen and a jack came down. The fourth card was an Ace. Then, the 5th card was the last jack.

Before the 5th card was laid down, my buddy with the 3 Queens went "all in" agaisnt my other buddy who went all in too. Then, my buddy with the 3 Jacks said "turn your cards over." He did and my buddy w/ the 3 Jacks almost started crying. The pot was $60.

Then, the 4th Jack got turned over and all hell broke loose. My buddy with the 3 Queens literally ripped his pocket Queens in half and left the room.

That's fucking brutal. I've had heartbreaker hands like that, where I totally have it locked up with a full house, but then on the river the other guy gets the higher full house. Sucks.

The biggest pot won by the winner was probably $110 or so.

We play about twice a week, usually. Not really for money, but we're going to start a "paying for chips" thing.

We play hold 'em, five/seven draw/stud. I've had my fair share of big wins.

Do you play poker at the nursery?

Sounds like you're playing with a bunch of babies.

biggest pot i won was about a year ago. i was playing and playing well i might add. i was playing pretty tight that night because at the moment my bank account was pretty slow. well... i had been knocking this guy around on a few hands earlier in the night but he had called me all the way down.

i am in first position and usually i don't bluff from this position but the way my cards had been falling that night it just seemed like a good time.

i had rags, absolutely nothing but i figured let's do it. i raised pre-flop. i had i think 3 callers. on the flop i think i had myself a pair, a low pair. the flop comes up 2 low diamonds and a spade. nothing of great value. i bet. 2 fold, only the one guy calls. so it's me and him.

the turn comes. no help to me, i check. he bets... i raise. so he looks over, like WTF? you check raised me. well he just calls. on the river another diamond pops up, so there are 3 diamonds and a spade and something else. i once again get nothing. so i got my one shitty ass pair. i bet, he raises, i raise right back at him. he looks over, and throws his hand away. i won about $200 on that hand. i got up and cashed out. w00t.

i miss playing hold'em

see, my friends would not "allow that"

i wanted to cash out last night around 7:00 but wasn't allowed to

i was tired, drunk, and stoned and i wanted to quit while i was ahead...i think i was up about $10 at that point

i ended up being up $17 but i could've been up $35 or so but i lost that big hand

i was playing at a casino. with my friends i wouldn't do that.

second, i'd never play serious cards while under the influence of anything. it affects your skills. if i am drinking it's the blackjack table all the way. i can play a blackjack game adn play how i am supposed to almost in a coma

EDIT: On a sidenote. i LOVE playing against people who are drunk. it's free money

My parents would always play poker with their friends, so I grew up with the game and love to play it whenever I get the chance. Texes Hold 'em is fun, but I prefer to play dealer calls.

I played in four tourneys at school: won first place twice ($100 prize!), second once, and the last time I got kicked out the final round for being too belligerently drunk. . . but I suspect they just didn't want me to win again.

And I only play drunk. I tried playing sober once, but I lost too badly.

i'm much better if i don't take it so seriously

last night was one of those nights that things just kept falling into place

i held on to flush draws thru the flop every time and i ended up getting several flushes...most people were playing so consersvatively after my first "big" pot ($15...I had pocket Aces and there was an Ace in the flop...the other three people had two pair each)

drinking and smoking help me relax a little and not take things so seriously

however, i did have a flush once and folded b/c i didn't realize i had it

:erm

I've totally done this before. It took me awhile to start looking for flushes on a regular basis.

I usually play Hold Em 2-3 times a week. During the day, I play $1 - $2 limit at the poker room at the local dog track. I would prefer to play higher limit stakes, but in Florida that is all they offer aside from the gambling ships and tournaments. When you're playing such low stakes, you have an abundance of terrible players that stay in for the flop and the turn with an offsuit 8 - 3 and end up hitting two pair or trips to beat your pocket aces. The only thing you can do is try to play premium hands and continually raise the pot if you flop something.

Now, No Limit is a totally different game. Me and my friends usually have $20 buy in tournaments on Wednesday nights or on the weekends. I've been unstoppable the last two months. I've continually won game after game at the track and during our tournaments. I played in a charity event a few weeks ago where I was the only player under 60 and totally destroyed the old bastards. Everyone of them would merely call before the flop or try to limp in once the flop had come. At one point, I had pocket Kings and was on the button. Six players in front of me just called so I raised the pot $2000 and everyone folded. They just couldn't understand why anyone would make such a big raise pre-flop. At the end of the night, I had over 8 times the chips I had started with. I'm planning on playing in Europe next month and then entering a few live tournaments this summer. Hopefully, I'll get the chance to play in the WSOP in the near future.
