Question- What did James do on this album? (that , is James Iha)
Is he singing on "Don't Be Sad"? or just playing guitar? Anyways, i love this album. |

Yeah, I think all he did is sing back up and maybe play guitar on a track, it's probably in the liner notes somewhere. Good album, but I like the other two better, especially Strangers Almanac.

He is given guitar and backing vocal credits in the booklet for Pneumonia and writing credits for Don't Be Sad (along w/ Adams and Daly). I wouldn't be surprised if he was involved with other tracks due to the nature of the recording sessions for this album.
edit- I just found this about James involvment on the album: "James Iha Records With Whiskeytown -- Smashing Pumpkins guitarist James Iha recently spent a week in the studio with Americana rock torchbearers Whiskeytown in Hoboken, N.J., where they worked on tracks for the band's follow-up to 1997's Strangers Almanac. Iha helped out with arrangements and pre-production on five or six songs for the album, according to a spokesperson from Outpost Recordings. The rest of the album, which is tentatively titled Go Bye Bye Music, is being recorded at Dreamland Studios in Woodstock, N.Y. and is reportedly more piano-heavy than past efforts. The band is recording somewhere in the neighborhood of 40 songs, from which they will cull the album's final tracks. Go Bye Bye Music is being produced by Ethan Johns (Emmylou Harris, John Hiatt) and is due in late summer 1999 on Outpost." Last edited by fallontears : 02-27-2004 at 09:24 AM. |

Great fucking album, BTW.
There's been murmurs about a new Whiskeytown record. |

Who knows if they'll make a new record or not. It seems that Catlin and Mike Daly are up for it. I guess it's up to Ryan ultimately. Last Fall Ryan and Catlin both said it was a go but then a week or so later, Ryan said it was bullshit. Who knows, maybe they will do it now, but I think Ryan is really trying to distance himself from his alt-country roots.

I heard that a few months ago but I take everything he says with a grain of salt. That would be great though, I've come to appreciate his Whiskeytown work more than his solo stuff. |
