The only problem I have with being a virgin is that when the topic comes up - like last night - people start to think of you just naturally as younger, even if you're the same age. They're like, "Aw, you haven't had sex yet!" and they get a funny look. I'm perfectly comfortable being a virgin, and it'll be lost fairly soon, but don't just assume virgins are wrong to define themselves by it. Sex, I'd argue, is extremely powerful force in human society, and those who aren't having it naturally define themselves by it. It's not the only thing I define myself by, but it is a factor.

That is what I'm saying. Once you've had sex a few times, you won't define yourself by it. At least you shouldn't.

I can understand that. But until you lose the v, you will define yourself by it. It's extremely hard not to, even just a little bit. It may be bad/wrong/whatever, but every virgin does it.

you'd think he'd have coerced someone into relations by now.

i dunno
yeah, that's strange unless he doesn't want to.

Not everyone. We were all virgins at one time.

I'm sure when you were a virgin - at least 10 years ago I'm betting - you thought that way. It's harder to put yourself in those shoes because now you can get it whenever (esp. being married, right?) and esp. looking back a long time ago; either way, I think it definitely is a defining characteristic until you lose it. There have been at least two times I could have lost it but it didn't feel right, either the person or the moment. I dunno. I'm reading too much into it on some levels, but I think some of what I'm saying is true.

I'm not married, and it was over 10 years ago, but I really don't believe I defined myself as by my virginity.

you drink too much though, and you are an sloppy, desperate, mumbling drunk, which is unattractive.

I never said it was the only thing I define myself by, but it certainly is a part of who I am. I'm not a sexually active person. It is rather important in our society. I define myself many other ways - funny, creative, shy - but it is another part of who I am. It was something you considered a part of you too, when you were a virgin.
