That's right. Health care is. Dentistry is an optional thingy. But he's got good dental insurance with his work so he only owes them about $300-$400.

Fillings, braces, and cleanings should NOT be footed by the government.

Oh, I just remembered. Cleanings for kids under 12 are free. I don't know about cavities cause I've never had one.

They are not fundamental to health. Certainly not the braces, at least.

If hearing aids aren't covered, braces sure as hell shouldn't be.

I've got 4 fillings all in all, and 2 of them happened a few weeks ago. I had the first 2 cavities when I was very young, so I had no idea what kind of pain to expect when getting my new fillings. I rejected the numbing shot at the urges of my hygenist (who happens to be my aunt) and the drilling was the only bit that hurt and it didn't even hurt that bad. I guess there's no other kind of pain that feels like drilling on a tooth, because it felt completely strange to me. Thank God that's over.

You guys need to get one of these flosser things that's like a tooth brush but has a little flossing head on the end. It's a lot easier to get yourself to floss with one of those.

i was being sarcastic actually...i thought canada had a pretty socialist healthcare system. i was wrong.

but now that you mention it, what do you honestly know about the general standard of dental hygiene in Britain? i'm guessing precisely nothing.

I've been reading that some dentists will remove them unnecessarily for the sake of profit.
the don't bother me at all, they only did when they were coming through the gum(which was like 2 years ago) but that is understandable. Only 2 out of the 4 have peeked out of the gum. Apparently the dentist doesn't "like" how they look. they're growing in crooked but my boyfriend says his dentist said the same thing to him and 3 out of his 4 straightened.

i couldn't even see my top two on the x-ray.

i agree with the whole "sake of profit" thing as well since my dad said that sometimes the hospitals will do it and my dentist was basically trying to talk him out of going that route.

I mentioned before that i have 3 cavaties and more forming. well, common sense would say to nip the forming ones in the butt before they become full blown.

i think what my dentist is trying to do (since each filling's price is determined by the size of the cavaties and which teeth they're on) is wait until they're big enough that i need a large filling (which is over $100 since the medium one is just that)

supposedly they also take a lot of wisdom teeth out because they can cause crowding of the rest of the teeth.
