why is everything in this country so trendy?

All the studies on it show that it lowers your cholesterol in the long run. They're not sure why yet.

Hoenstly, I felt alot better when I was on it, and I could eat as much as I wanted. I had to stop because it gets sort of expensive.

It's like eating the same thing that the cavemen did. It's natural. There really has been a jump in the amount of carbs people eat, and it goes right along with the trend of adult obesity.

our bodies a designed to run on both carbs and fats. trying to eliminate one of the two from our diets is not healthy.

fat is stored energy. your body breaks down carbs before it messes with the fat. if you dont break down all the carbs you consume, your body turns it into fat.
if you eliminate the carbs from your diet, your body will go straight to the fat. its sort of tricking your body into thinking its starving.
your brain runs almost completely on sugers you obtain through carbs. i'm pretty sure eliminating carbs would have an effect on how your brian functions, but i dont know what it is. maybe it doesnt at all, but that wouldnt make sence.

the atkins diet is probably not bad for you short term, and is probably a great idea for people who are obese, but i dont think its a good idea for a long term kind of deal

One of my friends eats nothing but deli meat and cheese. That's her weight-loss method, though it's still I guess too early to see if it's worked.

I think it is total crap. People may lose weight on it, but like someone said, I just don't see how eating bacon and stuff like that is better than a couple of slices of wheat bread. If you want to eat less carbs, good for you. But I think it's best to do a lifestyle overhaul instead of cutting out entire food groups.

The Atkin's plan is pretty much a cheater's diet. It stresses your body into losing weight. However, if you have to lose a large amount of weight in a short time, Atkin's is probably the best thing.

From a truly health standpoint, nothing beats a diet of lightly cooked vegetables with lean meat(fish) coupled with regular cardiovascular exercise.

Of course eating over-processed refined carbohydrates are bad for you. Eating a bowl of refine pasta is the same idea as eating a bowl of sugar.

Eating whole grains and more nutritious foods like that is what humans are meant to do for their carbohydrate intake. Your body breaks it down much slower, instead of giving you an instant glucose high.

Shocking the body with protein leads to kidney problems, not to mention heart disease.

i so agree with you, i HATE how seemingly like every restaurant all of a damn sudden is hyping the low-carb trend(especially freggin' Burger King!). i'm actually really surprised that they've supposedly started to sell a 'bunless' burger w/some special type of lettuce on the top and bottom of it.....

as for myself, i'm just sticking to my regular diet, and what's always worked for me to keep my weight low. none of this stupid diet hype for me, that's for darn sure.

it's because carbohydrates are responsible for the amount of insulin being produced. and the amount of insulin being produced determines how much sugar is being stored as fat. so: low car = less fat. but you can't jsut go around eating flesh all the time. there are carbs which have less impact. as a guideline, everything that is not made from refined wheat....the montignac diet which i do is based on this. i lost 15 kg with it already. and i eat a lot...it all depends on what you eat and how you combine it....

btw. i didn't read the thread. so if anyone answered that already, sorry.

oh andyou can go around eating lot's of bacon, if you eat lot of salad with it. and not with some fat dressing, but just with vineagr and oil. there's nothing wrong with this...

Once again, people talk about somethig without knowing what the hell they're talking about.

You don't ELIMINATE your carbs, you just eat less. You eat the amount your body needs, and then stop.

Only in the first 3 weeks of the Atkins diet do you eat a very low amount (20 carbs a day), but you STILL EAT CARBS

She's not doing it right then. You need a variety, and I hope she's taking vitamins.

Please remain calm. I am not talking out of my ass because I have looked into these programs. Maybe not your diet in particular, but a lot of this marketing and shit makes it sound like carbs are pure evil and should go away. That is all. I phrased it wrong.

I don't see it that way. I see alot of products that are "low carb", not "carb free". I just really hate it when this topic comes up on netphoria, because everyone starts complaining so matter-of-factly about something they have no facts about.

that's to much, you shouldn't loose more than 4-5 pounds a week. more than that is unhealthy

Actually it's all relative to your body weight. I was around 215-220 when I started.
