A distinguishing or characteristic quality, such as the flavor of a wine.



As you can see, geography plays a role in race. You can't simply say it is a geographic trait and therefore it is not a race specific trait, the two are intertwined.

There is a very strong case to be made for the definite existence of race in America. I'm reading an excellent book, "American Apartheid: Segregation and the Making of the Underclass" by Douglas S. Massey & Nancy A. Denton. It uses data from all kids of studies and surveys to show, over and over again, that if you control for social, economic and neighborhood characteristics, whites have systematically received better treatment, notably by lending institutions and real estate agents, that has created the ghetto and in turn created an underclass. I know that there are a lot of different books by a lot of different authors, and a lot of different studies by a lot of different researchers, but the data that is presented here is very strong and is no less than shocking. Probably most importantly, whites have always (and still do) held very prejudiced views aganst the possibility of living with blacks, check this out:

Before you say "This was 1976!" or "This was Detroit!" or "Blacks probably feel the same way about whites!" I'll have to say "Read the book! You'd be suprised!"

Still those numbers alone probably make things seem a bit skewed. I doubt those numbers would be the same if take now, 30 years later. If you take something like that out of context if can be very deceiving.

I just quoted that data because it was easiest for me to type out. Trust me, things have not changed much according to this book. As you've told me, there are a million different books with a million different viewpoints, but this book is required reading for almost all Sociology PhD students, and that must mean that a lot of PhDs see this is something that needs to be considered. Just make sure you don't toss out information just because you're skeptical.

Just to bring a little more recent data to the table, I'll type out one more paragraph:

"Similarly, the New York Times reported in 1991 that unpublished data from the Federal Reserve showed dramatic racial disparities in loan rejection rates that could not be explained by income. The Manufacturers Hanover Trust Company of New York, for example, rejected 43% of its mortgage applications from high-income blacks, but only 18% from high-income whites. Similarly, NCNB Bank of Texas rejected 36% of its middle-income black applicants in Houston but only 13% of middle-oncome whites; and the rejection rate for blacks seeking mortgages from the Bank of America in San Francisco was 39% for blacks, but 26% for whites."

What I'm trying to say is, this is 1/3 a page and the book is 200 pages long.

I'm sorry, you're right. All white people constantly beat down minorities and take every chance we get to hold them down. As a race, the white people owe the rest of the worlds races some form of compensation for the oppressive behavior we so often show.
