Default Oak Island

I read a great article on the "mystery of oak island" in the new Rolling Stone. Somehow, I had never heard of it before.

If you don't know what I am talking about, here is a link from google. http://www.activemind.com/Mysterious/Topics/OakIsland/

If you do know what I am talking about, do you have anything to share? It is a sad story of all these people wasting their lives and coming up short.

The Rolling Stone said that it could either be money, pirate treasure, crown jewels of france, the hoyl grail, or the Sir Francis Bacon/Shakespeare manuscripts buried there.

It's funny you started a thread about it because I read it while waiting in a doctor's office today. It was pretty interesting how something built three hundred years ago could be so seemingly complicated in design. It seems that the more they try to figure out how it works the more they hamper their own efforts, especially with all the similar-looking holes dug around the actual tunnel. They really screwed themselves with that.

Yeah, I usually don't read Rolling Stone, plue it has Dave Matthews on the cover which was another reason to leave it be. I'm glad I picked it up though, great article.

"If he is proven correct, he said Oak Island could become a tourism draw attracting 100,000 people or more a year."

he is getting old. sounds like he is trying to stir up attention/funding/tourism.

Really. Admittedly, I was somewhat to relieved that he came off as the asshole I assumed he was. That fucking Ford truck commercial song he did was bad enough

I had never heard about it and I had left my Dave Matthews issue of Rolling Stone for dead, but I dug it back out and read the article and it was really interesting. I wonder if they'll find out what it is in our lifetimes? Even though it doesn't sound incredibly likely, I hope so. I hope it's the grail or the Bacon manuscripts, because the world would really get excited if one of those things was found. I can tell you one thing, I'm not going to waste my time and money digging around there.

PS - Did you notice the Explosions In The Sky review in the Out There section? It can't be the worst issue ever! Well, if you think about the fact that Toby Keith had a big article and they only had a little paragraph, than maybe it is true.

'tis true! i have been known to tell a tall tale or two!

yeah, i think it would be fun to be involved in looking for the treasure on oak island. it isn't what i would want to do with my life, but it would be fun to devote some physical labor or expertise to the project in my spare time.

who wouldn't want to help solve a mystery that could explain a part of history?
