Default B0lly on faith

My mom informed me that there was a quote by Billy in this monthly Christian magazine called Guideposts. She even saved it for me! Its the October one on page 22.
Merry Christmas!

"Faith is the great energy. As long as you have faith, you're willing to try to take another chance. God wants you to amble toward the right spot on the horizon. The idea is that you're willing to get up and keep moving toward that light."

-- Billy Corgan, rock musician and songwriter

Why would a christian magazine cite Billy Corgan? He doesn't profess to be a born again christian.

I saw no professions of faith in Jesus as Billy or any other bandmember's personal savior.

Well, back when my family did the church thing (when I was a youngun) we got those magazines and i remember them being pretty conservative christian. I study christianity and the trends towards this secularization of mainline protestantism is pretty interesting.

I would not consider it "elitist" for one to hold exclusive christian beliefs. Usage of that word demonstrates another trend in the attitudes of those who sectarianize mainline protestants.

What the FUCK?

A man that once said:

"emptiness is loneliness, and loneliness is cleanliness, and cleanliness is godliness, and god is empty just like me"

and only a couple years ago

"you light up the sky
and scrape out your skull
your lovely face
will never be claimed thrice

and we're so unlikely to
upon my wrists i bear the cross
my losses mount as i climb across the home of my own soul"

...now says: "Faith is the great energy. As long as you have faith, you're willing to try to take another chance. God wants you to amble toward the right spot on the horizon. The idea is that you're willing to get up and keep moving toward that light."

Again I say, WHAT THE FUCK?

I like it. it's been interesting to me to watch how Billy becomes more "religious" or whatever you want to call it. I wonder how magazines like that find those sorts of quotes.

My thoughts on this line and ones similar are that sometimes artists write things out of emotion. People often feel different emotions than normal after a certain experience, negative or positive. Plenty of artists try to capture this in song.

OR they could just be the "bullshit lyrics" he talked about in Storytellers.

I really don't know, but it seems like he's never been anti-God outside of his music. It seems like hes being shady about his religious thoughts anyway. He rarely gives anyone a straight-forward answer when hes questioned.

Also, just because hes talking about faith and God doesn't mean hes a Christian, which is why I found it interesting he was quoted in a Christian magazine.

Good to see that Billy has not remained stagnant over the last 8 years, but has actually grown a bit.

It's not a great sign of your personality when, over 8 years, you have not evolved at all, though it is admittedly quite easy to do if living online.
