When I was a child who relied upon his parents and their station wagon as his sole means of transport, I was often subjected to the sonic tapioca that was their favorite easy listening music station. It was the blandest, most lifeless music known to man, and its shining star was a program called "The Quiet Storm." The show was a one-hour tediumfest in which a heavily-sedated DJ took romance-related phone calls in between playing balls-to-the-wall anthems from the likes of Deionne Warwick and, apparently, in between injecting Xanax directly into his eye. These drives in the car were harrowing, and to this day I consequently find it difficult to shake the nagging suspicion that life has no meaning.

This flame war is a lot like that. I'm as unsure of its status as a flame war as much as I was unsure that the repertoire of "The Quiet Storm" consisted of music. In this thread, it appears as if people are circling a common flame-target, but I could be wrong about that. AndItsAllGone's offensive maneuvres have been neutralized by a tangential discussion about his message board obscurity. Lie's passive-aggressive remarks about spa ced's 'pureness and simplicity' have been derailed by a clarification of terms. And Nimrod's Son seems fatigued; his usual acerbicity has culminated in an indirectly insulting comment about spa ced lacking a 'filter' for sarcasm. It seems as if, in the multiple threads-spanning battle between fey David and mullet-headed Goliath, that the insults of the latter have begun to roll off the former like water off the down of a duck. A really, really gay duck. You tired, Nimrod? You pussyin' out, ese?

Look, Netphoria, I expect more from you than this. When I read a flame war, I want to fucking know I'm reading a flame war. I want the opposing factions to be clearly delineated, and I want the blood of the weak and inarticulate bespeckled on every epithet. Give me Braveheart. Give me Tough Man competitions that produce dead housewives. Don't give me scrawny Frenchman slapping and pawing each other about the chest and shoulders.
