For all the Kiwis out there:

A documentary about our favourite band (no, not Zwan) is on C4 on Sunday at 8.30pm. The blurb says "Smashing Pumpkins 1988-2000", so I don't know what doco it is (Full Circle perhaps?). Anyway, it should be good. This week's Listener even has a pic of B0lly on it's TV Week page.

yeah, sounds like Full Circle to me.
It's worth a look if you've never seen it.

Thanks for the heads up!

I think it might be Graceful Swans of Never actually. That was shown on M2 a while back when that was around. Not too different from Full Circle though anyway.

The C4 website doesn't say what the Doco is, but does have this wee cartoon:

If you are talking about "Low" by the Foo Fighters, they showed the uncensored version on Space when it first came out. Strange, strange video.

Nope. Email me and a copy is yours. Email me a bootlist and even better.

I would really hope that the concert is spread around. It was absolutely amazing and my recording is wonderful. But the only online Bic community is her official messageboard which is run by Sony (who also taped it). I can't really adveritise its presence on that board.

I don't want it MP3d and Kazaad or anything though.

Where do you leave Kiwi?

I think that there should be some website or something linking all the tapers in New Zealand. There aren't all that many, and it would be really nice to know what was out there and to help ensure cool stuff gets taped. Maybe if I get some time and motivation I could make a little NZ taping site.

Incidentally I've just been contacted by a Wellingtonian who has been taping for a good few years and now uses DAT. I've lost contact with other tapers due to my hard disk failure. But I know a guy called Gary who did the BDO this year.

Contact me:

Hey Ben - see if that wellingtonian dude has taped anything exciting over the last few years.

Especially something I'd like.

Awesome, DoctaSoma (can I call ya Ben? I'm Jack), I'll email you pronto.

I'm in Auckland.

I reckon a site linking tapers is a great idea. Something similar to you guys' Smashing Pumpkins trading ring but on a slightly grander scale.

As soon as I get some extra cash I'm getting some mics from Pzane, and I'l cut my teeth at the BDO or something close to that I guess.

surely getting gear into the BDO is no easy task? ... them big islanders on the gates conduct a pretty intimate frisk

mind you - I seem to be able to sneak in all sorts of nefarious items year after year

if there are any tapers who want to explore some audio mastering options they should drop me a pm ... I'm quite keen to see what I could do with these sorts of recordings in the studio.

Cool

well I'm lucky enough to have 'priveledges' and get access through backstage at the BDO (dad was a promoter).

and I'm pretty sure that they do VERY light searches (if any) via that way.

Welly welly well,

I could PM you but I'm lazy. If you want to have a go tweaking one of my recordings you are quite welcome. I'd be interested in the result.

My best recording for quality is the Bic with the CSO recording or my first Bic show. Check my bootlist for others I have recorded. Since updating though I have recorded:

The White Stripes
Ben Harper
Jack Johnson
Bic Runga 3 times
Brooke Fraser
Audioslave

I wouldn't bother too much with BDO shows because the quality of sound at the BDO is too limiting.

Get back to me, I'd happily send you a couple of discs to play with.

-Ben
