Thumbs up the SPIN MAGAZINE ALTERNATIVE RECORD GUIDE

Before Bob Guccione, Jr. left the magazine he founded and Alan Light sent it straight to hell, they published this interesting chestnut from 1995. Most of their reviews are spot-on, and there's plenty of relatively obscure stuff to discover (many of the albums that were out of print then have been brought back into print). If you can get a used copy, go for it.

That's one of the more interesting top 100 lists I've ever seen come from a mainstream source.

that IS a pretty good list, can't say there's nothing on there that i don't like in some way shape or form, but i think they should've at least had MCIS on there too. and putting SD at 97 is pretty insulting.
