I pointed out an oxymoron my teacher said in 7th grade during class. Then my ENGLISH teacher went on to telll me there was no such thing as an oxymoron, that I was making things up. I laughed a lot that day.

some of you guys have to seriously get past this taboo of drugs that society feeds you and open your mind a little. don't pretend to know about things you've never experienced.

What taboo are you talking about?!

I think everyone else is referring to the damaging effects it has. Does that factor into your experiences? Hello?

How do you ignore and/or rationalize that?

No no, I'm not the responsible crack addict. I'm far from responsible. Heh.

In response to puppeteer, I've only smoked that nasty shit once and didn't really care for it. Never did it again. I didn't do it because its bad for your body and it just wasn't enjoyable to me. I don't do a drug that I know has negative effects I am afraid of. I think I usually have a good amount of knowledge about what I am taking and what it does to my body. But I do know one thing, I only live this life once and I want to experience all spectrums of this life as I can, and I will.

in keeping with the original question

caffeine
nicotine
alcohol
marijuana
lsd
shrooms
opium
codeine
speed
cocaine
ecstasy
ketamine

...

The ones in bold are the drugs I still use. Acid proves the hardest one to stay away from, but I have stayed well away for almost 2 years now. I did too much in too short a space of time and didn't come right for a good 6 months afterwards. Just thinking about it makes me shudder a little bit even now.

While I highly disagree with you, I respect your opinion because (while far from sound) is well founded. You realize the risks you're taking. You said "negative effects I am afraid of" so you realize they're bad for you, but do them anyway. That's a personal judgement and realization of the truth.

June33's posts seem to indicate that there's nothing wrong with drugs except the fact that society says we shouldn't do them.

THAT's a problem. That's a belief in proven falsehoods. There ARE problems with drugs. They DO hurt your body. They DO cause problems. "getting past a taboo" has nothing to do with it.

Drugs hurt.

But the way you make it so black and white is what june I believe is reffering too. I took Lsd when I was a rather young person. It opened up so many mental doors for me that I think I realized a lot about the world in a short amount of time. The gain from that first Lsd experience was enough to make up for 100 times the damage it could ever possibly to do me physically. Somethings you weigh your profits and losses. I think that drug use was beneficial. For you to say drugs just hurt is to say there is no benefit of doing them, that is wrong.

I find it interesting how drugs are marketed by different names depending on where you are.

Ecstasy is either X, E or rolls. Here it's always X.

Ketaimine is either Ketamine, K or Special K. I've never heard it called anytyhing other than Special K in Texas.

Meth is a whole different story because I think that there actually is a difference between crystal meth and meth. But what about crank? Is that meth? Can it all just generically be referred to as speed?

absolutely ... I've always reffered to ecstasy as E - this X phenomenon seems to be limited to the states only

For all drug related questions I would refer to www.erowid.com first. Pretty large database of information.

I think that you're getting a little confused. "Society" isn't feeding me anything.. I can tell you from personal experience that cocaine is more dangerous than alcohol.

Anyway, some things that "society" says about drugs may be exaggerated, because "society" can do that. However, you can't deny that there is danger in taking drugs.

I don't recall people getting so addicted to alcohol that they would sell all their furniture and try to sell their child for money to buy more crack.

The first link I clicked:

There Was No Turning Back Once I Tried It
Cocaine
by Katie

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DOSE : 5 lines insufflated Cocaine (powder / crystals)

One night I had some of my older friends over at my house, my parents were away. I was looking to get high off acid or weed, but my friend Larry insisted that we get some coke. I agreed. The coke arrived and Larry crushed and prepared it, Danielle was so excited, she couldn't wait. I was scared, it did not want to get addicted to it, I just wanted to try it. When it was ready everybody snorted a line or two. It was my turn, I was so scared. I picked up the pen tube; held it to my nose and took a deep breath and snorted it. In less than five minutes I was jumping all over the place, it felt so good, I was so aware, so alive. When my 'high' finally wore off I begged and begged for some more. I wanted it so badly, just after one line (the first time too). Larry told me to calm down but I couldn't, I wanted some more so badly.

After awhile, after me nagging so much. He gave in and prepared more lines. This time I jumped right on it, the first to snort, I took in 5 lines. Shortly, I was jumping off the wall again. I wanted it so bad, there was nothing better than this feeling, i loved it. The drip was the only bad part. Larry light up and joint and I insisted he roll it in coke, so he did. Everything just seemed so much better at the time.

In the morning when I woke up. I had such bad side affects, I was so groggy. I had a horrible headache and I felt extremely nauseous. I could not get a hold of any more so I started snorting my Ridalin. It gave me a weaker experience but it worked. Soon I started snorting anything I could get my hands on: sugar, ridalin, prozac, and advil.

Now I can never stop thinking about it, its always a temptation to call a dealer and get some. I would do anything to get some coke. One time lead to another and that lead to many more. It always sticks in the back in my head now. I can not stop thinking about it. I want it more and more. Everyday I think of getting some, but I must learn how to get over my temptations. Cocaine changed my life forever, it will always not matter what stick in the back of my head. I will never completely forget about it.

Hmm. You must not have any close family members who are severe alcoholics. They are pretty fucking self-destructive and toxic, although they may not sell their kid for money to buy crack. That's such an extreme example though, so it doesn't hold much weight.

I know many severe alcoholics who basically sold their families for booze.

Obviously people who have severe drug problems other than marijuana live equally destructive lives.

This is a quality I have observed in some drug users ... and without meaning to draw a crass generalisation, mostly amongst younger drug users flunking their way through BA's.

Whereas it is clear that abuse of most drugs will have harmful side affects, this denial mechanism comes in to play. Based on the premise that "society" has blown the consequences out of proportion, some drug users will claim that there are in fact no consequences whatsoever.

See your local NORML representative for an example of what I'm talking about ... fucking dreadlocked soap dodging loser who can spout endless pro marijuana propoganda, recite every bob marley lyric under the sun, but can't remember the last time he had a shower. See also the "I've got it under control" guy that we all know and love ... I know so many of these guys it's worrisome.

I think "society" or whatever you wish to call it does blow things out of proportion for a number of reasons. However this isn't a valid reason to disregard good, solid scientific research, and anecdotal evidence from those who have been there before - else you may just end up bieng the anti-drug nazi poster boy.

Have you ever been to an AA meeting?
Ever known a full blown alcoholic?

This is in reference to the girl who got addicted to cocaine. The world of drugs is full of horror stories and things a lot worse then that. Certain people should never take drugs, EVER. I know plenty of those people. I've watched plenty of those people take drugs, its bad...and sometimes funny. I speak for myself. But you should realize alcohol is just as dangerous as anything out there in the hands of someone who shouldn't be doing it.
