That board is so goddamn annyoing. I make sure i ALWAYS post there regarding something i like, If anything, just to piss off those damn idiots who fucking ruin threads with their ignorant comments. Sometimes i actually do get good, helpful replies.

I RARELY EVER put anyone down on what they listen to, and i hope for the same respect, but unfortunately--there isn't any. There isn't anything more annoying than being excited and posting about something you like, or want to know more about, and then getting nothing but shitty-assed, snot nosed coments about how bad that music is. I like Alot of different music, most ranging in the Rock/Grunge (if you consider that a genre)/Metal( Brad is THE authority on Metal @ the music board though) dept., so i usually get flamed. And for the most part, most people haven't even completely heard what they dismiss. The same could be said for me, but i don't talk shit about what i don't know.

Sad as it is, I actually wish that the mods over there would make some rules about being courteous to other people's taste and whatnot.

I wouldn't completely agree with that. I think the kind of music a person listens to says something about their character, so you are, in a way, insulting the person by insulting the band they like. It feels to me like a lot of people think that's the be all and end all to rock music, and like Julio said, the people who do listen to a wide range of stuff seldom post because of the limitations of the majority of the music critics there. And this has nothing to do with my taste. I have pretty shitty taste, but it's my taste, and I think the board is mostly just clones nodding yes to anything that is critically acclaimed without thinking twice about it.

it's the nature of the beast. what are you going to do? it's no better or worse in many fields/industries/'scenes', especially art, and to a lesser degree (snobby but not pretentious, usually) in fashion. if you really love it, you deal. if not, get over it.

i'd just like to back up suze and say that i fully remember when it happened - right after radiohead performed on SNL.

brendan made a thread about how the performance was pompous crap, how the band used to be cool and their new direction sucks and trying to understand what the hell there was about them that people liked.

i totally agree with what brendan's saying. the whole hipster miserable melancholy 'critically acclaimed' rock scene more often than not disgusts me, but i guess fans of that stuff are more likely to post tirelessly on message boards, hence the state we're in. but anyway, brendan, just admit the radiohead thing and realize that if you mistake other people being outspoken and opinionated for being pretentious and closed-minded, then YOU're the hypocrite.

the one thing that pisses me off about the music board is everyone's need to list. your top ten albums of the year, your top ten favorite songs, the CDs you just bought, the last goddamn CDs you listened to. that's not discussing music! it's... just.... i mean.... i can't.... ARGGGH! *explodes*

I don't like it and I don't hate it. I enjoy hearing other people's opinions, but it's rare that someone can back their opinions with any sort of reasoning, thus creating an unpleasant series of posts. I buy into it occasionally and find myself trying to shed light on certain subjects, but I know, in the end, it's useless because I'm asking for explanations from people who don't have the ability to logically explain why they like or dislike something. Everyone's a critic, but not everyone knows enough about music to be an authoritative one...

the reason i don't like the music board is that there is rarely any discussion at all....

what's the point in posting a topic like "favourite song that contains the word 'cheese' " or whatever. noone reads what anyone else writes. noone else ever comments or replies on anything beforehand. it's just a series of mindless +ones.

or then you get "i like band X" followed by 20 in the vein of "so do i" and 20 in the vein of "no, they suck". where is the discussion in that?

by far the best thread that's been on the music board in weeks/months was failure's comment/copyandpasted report on mp3s/piracy. at least people can make points there...which others may or may not agree with. infinitely more interesting.

Hah. Oh yeah. I didn't think it was the best live performance I'd ever seen. The rest of what I said was just, well, wrong since I hadn't even heard OK Computer or Kid A at that point.
