http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...2002Oct19.html heh. i think i made the right choices finally. anyways yeah. and if you haven't registered to vote yet, go to the dmv and do it. or https://ssl.capwiz.com/congressorg/nvra/ or just go hoere and click on your respective state http://dir.yahoo.com/Government/U_S_...tion/By_State/ most states offer downloadable forms. they will also offer absentee ballot forms if you are a college student and/or not a resident of where you currently live. |

I voted absentee already because I don't live in the state I live. Yeah that makes sense. I tried to make some sense out of the referrendums and what not but, yeah, I guess it's wierd because that stuff is obvioulsy important but most of us are clueless about it. I just voted because I hate Sen. Wellstone and I want him out of him out of office whether he has MS or not. I know that sounds bad but I just don't think he's done much for our state. He won't lose though. |

Besides, we don't live in a democracy. It's a republic, merging quicly into a socialist state. Personally, I'm a communist at heart, and despise our governmental system. Democracy's good and all, but not how America distorts it. |

As far the democracy/republic thing: In a true democracy, each individual would vote on every piece of legislation. However, we don't. We elect certain people to vote for us, because we possibly can't know what is best for ourselves or understand what all the bill or law or whatever it may be is talking about. Thus, representatives do it, thus the term "republic." |

well, enough kids say that, and guedss what happens. you have a huge sector of the population that won't vote. nice try. my vote DOES matter of course we live in a republic not a democracy and we aren't going to merge into a socialist state anytime soon (not that i'd really mind except on an economic standpoing it's not cost-effective or something) |

anywyas, please ignore sppunk and vote. it's quite possibly the most important act of civic duty there is. if you don't vote your government stops representing you. that's all there is to it. so vote.

And don't make yourself feel more important than you really are. No election has ever come to ONE vote, so technically, Suze's (Samsa's) vote hasn't made any difference. |

Socialism is dependant on citizens not being greedy and selfish, both of which Americans are in spades. This is obviously a generalization, but with so many of them(us) falling into this category, there was no way it would work out.
Hey Karly, humans have a desire to move on and improve their lives. Move up. Sorry. |

As far as the socialist thing, I just really think America has moved into a tyrant of sorts. We are trying to be the police of the world. Getting invovled in places we have no business in, besides to promote our democractic ideals and better manage our imports for more money. And like I said, the new programs Bush has approved have pushed it one step further. Are we a socialist state yet? Of course not, by no means. But, if things don't change, it wouldn't be out of the question in the next, oh, 20 years or so? Just some ideas to ponder. But keep in mind I'm a cynic and overanalyze everything. |

For your vote to matter that would mean that the outcome of the election would be different depending on whether or not you vote. That just isn't the case unless it comes down to a matter of one vote. In theory (or more precisely, in an aggregate sense), your vote DOES matter because if thousands of Samsa's chose not to vote than the election results would be altered. How many of you eeked at the words "thousands of Samsa's." I know I did. But I'm just a thug. |

i'm not making myself feel more important than i am. the only difference is that i, unlike you, do NOT view government from an individualistic standpoint. you have it all fucking backwards. i view myself as one of many who CAN make a difference if enough of them vote. i, unlike you, understand that voting is one of the greatest rights there is, and one of the most treasured aspects of government. and i'm not going to lose it just because of apathy or selfish 'but my vote doesn't make a difference waaah waaah waah' selfish point of view. of course one vote doesn't make a difference. any moron knows that. but that doesn't mean that 100,000 votes don't make a difference. do you throw your trash on the street? well you should, because i doubt that one piece of paper really hurts the environment. do you shoplift? well you should, because it's not like one candy bar really economically harms the store. should you give money to charity? not really, because it's not like your money will really make any difference. it's the same fucking situation. just give it up. |

just because YOUR vote doesn't matter doesn't mean you shouldn't vote. that is the stupidest fucking thing i've heard ever. it's a completely selfish way of looking at the world. nothing fucking matters if you look at it from an individualistic point of view. nothing matters at all. but that doesn't mean you still don't have responsibilities or obligations. you dick. |

anyways, sorry apathetic stupid kids who take for granted lots of fucking shit ruined this thread
just vote. it's not that hard. it takes 2 minutes. and if politicians see that more young people are voting they'll start paying attention to your concerns. plain and simple. go to your local dmv, or download a form. they'll send you an absentee ballo tin the mail if you aren't a resident of your current location. and if you are within driving/walking distance of your appropriate polling place, voting booths are really fucking cool. and you'll probably get a sticker. |

I like how you think you know what I want from government, when I haven't even come close to saying anything about being individualistic at all. In fact, I fucking hate individualism government, that's why democracy's don't work out very well. It's fine to vote if you know what the hell's going on, but you obviously said you didn't. You shouldn't joke about stuff like that on a messageboard where your cynical comments can't be noticed. Do I throw litter? Yes, fuck MotherNature, what's she done for me today? Do I steal? I have, things are so overpriced who gives a shit? That's more of your dumbass capitalists behavior making poor people steal. You're mentality is the reason this worlds such a shitty place to live in if your not a white, middle class or higher, educated human being. Go give your thoughts to Somolia, see how far they'll take it. No fucking very. |

You fucking tard you're a stupid idiot that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Nothing maters. You dick. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that your pre-existing hostility toward me may contribute somewhat to your recent responses. Not that you are much of an intellecutal, but you do a lot better job when you're not taking it to such a juvenille level. You wish you were John McEnroe or Zach De La Rocah who could use anger to their advantage, but you are no John McEnroe. When you get angry, it shows through to your resopnse, and you sound down right adolescent. |

Its impossible to tell what you mean with your incoherant posts. You don't use sentence structure, mispell damn near everything and fail to ever reach a conclusion without postin mhm. nm. or some retarded bullshit like that. You say you aren't going to argue, yet go on to do so. That basically tears away any credibility you have with me. I'm not selfish for not voting. If I don't believe in something, I'm not going to vote. It's like religion, if you don't believe in a God you're not going to practice a faith. If I don't believe in any of the candidates, I'm not going to support the "lesser of the evils" as a lot of people like to argue. Our government is stable? In what sense: We keep a president and offices for 4 years? That's about it. The White House constantly rebutles their statements and paints everything to look like they're doing good. But that's their job, if they didn't, Americans would be scared to death. You think we know of all the unstablity between our leaders? No. Is there some? Hell yes. I would move to Somolia, by the way, but it's too fucking hot there and they don't have enough meat to eat. I gotta be able to put away some Prime Rib about once every two or three weeks. Maybe I should move to Sweden though, that's where I'm from anyways. Things are pretty nice there, if you haven't heard. |

You think I am stupid because I don't share your Liberal agenda for society. I'm not an idealist like you. Saying something of value, really just means something that fits into your view of society. I'm sure 99% of NP would agree that you are the last person who should be attacking people for not having anythign of value to say. Mrs., "how this half-hour of my life went." You and all your "I farted. Read all about it" posts are valueless. As far as stating the obvious, you are the one who boasted that the serial sniper is "anti-soical." That's fairly obvious. I'm smarter than that ignorant Target employee you are dating. I can tell you that much. I didn't break down at UC Irvine and lock myself in a room for a year. If I did those things would you then let me argue with you on an intellecutal level? |

yes. for as long as our country has existed there has existed a peaceful transition of power. no president has ever used military force to stay in office. no person has ever used military force to seize power. i would call that a stable government. sorry if you don't. *** yeah. just give it up. you don't vote because you're apathetic. that doens't mean other people shouldn't. stop fucking telling me and other people what to do. |
