Default what new records should i pick up?

i just heard The Mars Volta, and its good stuff. there's one cd to buy.

anyone heard Vendetta Red? i have only heard the new single, and its pretty good. i read in a review that said "never since the smashing pumpkins have guitars sounded this good" which really made me curious.

Bought the new Mogwai, and it rocks.

How about Black Rebel Motorcyle club?

i am for the first time in october with papa m.

who used to have the site with the mogwai live shows? that's what really got me into them, they sound awesome live.

and after seeing the Ziggy Stardust movie a couple of nights ago, i am going to finally pick up the live record, and the re-issue with the b-sides

If you want good music, go for another decade, because frankly the 2000's blow thus far.

a few of the finest bands of the last five years since you asked nicely:

Grandaddy, Interpol, ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead, Elbow, and even if not a quarter as good as The Mars Volta, discover At The Drive-In (best band of the 90's with Nirvana)

i generally don't hate you like everyone here does, but this comment is moronic. anyone who thinks music sucks more now than it used to for some reason just isn't digging deep enough.

they're good but there's about 100 punk/post-punk records you should get before that one.

it's post-punk minimalist pop. cheeee.

um. better albums from the same relative time period:

Gang of Four - Entertainment, Solid Gold
Public Image Ltd. - Second Edition
Magazine - Real Life, Secondhand Daylight, The Correct Use of Soap
Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures, Closer
Wire - Pink Flag, Chairs Missing, 154
Tubeway Army - s/t
Pere Ubu - Dub Housing
This Heat - s/t, Deceit
The Pop Group - Y, How Much Longer...
Swell Maps - A Trip to Marineville
Fad Gadget - Fireside Favorites
Kraftwerk - Computer World
Monitor - s/t
Raincoats - s/t, Odyshape

etc. not that Young Marble Giants aren't great. it's just not my favorite album from the era.

definitely Trail Of Dead! Mogwai. The Dandy Warhols-"come down", very psychadelic, but not new. I thought Black Rebel Motorcycle Club's last album was farily good. It gets old fast tho. How about ummm, i don't know.....THRILLER?http://thegalleryofmonstertoys.com/80swing/thriller.jpg

i think Colossal Youth is about an 8.0, and every album i listed is above that. that's the difference here. that and i think you need to listen to the Swell Maps album again, it kicks ass.

and Computer World isn't post-punk, it's electro-pop, it just fits into the vein of that material and came from the same time.

Dude, eyesbomb. No way.

Chairs Missing is fucking fantastic. Way better than Pink Flag, at least. It's about even with 154.
