Question So, does anyone here actually have the Merzbox?

Sometimes on my voyages deep into the depths of allmusic.com i stumble upon merzbow. I can't help but read the merzbox review. The thing fascinates me, and scares me at the same time.

I've only listened to 1930, and i can't imagine listening to 40 hours of merzbow. I think it would be the greatest challenge in my life since being born, keeping in thought that after 3 minutes of 1930 my ears already bleed.

fuck merzbow

I've got parts of it. Probably 5-6 hours. I just can't take that plunge into noise. Maybe someday I can get a record store to order it and then steal it.

I cannot see how on earth people could enjoy that. 40 hours of noise.

I listened to 3 minutes of Merzbow, and that was more than enough. Noise for the sake of noise. Pointless.

I will, hopefully sometime within the next year, buy my own merzbox. I have contacted the head of the label who released it (he lives near me kinda) and was told there are still copies available, even though it was produced as a limited number, I think 1000. I enjoy merzbow's sound for what it is, the art of chaotic noise and the depths it can go to. I have many merzbow albums already and still listen to them regularly, so I think I can handle the 40 hours + of this beast

If someone gave it to me for free, I'd listen to it.

also let it be known that you get more in the box than just 50 discs. you also get a huge book which is sorta like a biography, I've seen it sell for 80 bucks alone, also you get a medallion,a shirt and a cd-rom, and it is all wrapped in a bondage-leather zip-up case

how do you know it is mindless noise when you've never listened to any of it? you never know, it could be the greatest thing you've never heard

believe me, i'll hate it.

i have very specific tastes in music....even if only 1% of what i've read about it turns out to be true, i'll think it's horrible.

i just checked the length of my acid mothers temple mp3s. They total 8h43mins. I know all these albums quite well, and i can't even imagine listening to all of these, let alone to the sheer noise of merzbow. I think merzbow's quite fascinating, but i can't stand it that long.

billy joel is one of the finest songwriters of his generation. i realise you're not allowed to like him, ryan, what with him being commercially successful and all..

...maybe if he released some ambient new-age, avant-guard, freeform jazz tho eh?

i have the box, and i think 99% of you have no reason to appreciate it, or even understand why it was released, so what's the fuckin problem? eh? some of you like cher. you'll burn in hell for that, you know.

what I plan to do, if I ever get the box, is to take it slow and really stretch the listening time out. instead of playing 15 discs within a few days or something I will stick to one disc for a week, play it a few times through, appreciate it. then the week after I will move onto the next disc. the box would last me almost a year then, now that I think about it

I can appreciate "Gore Beyond Necropsy" and "Glass Houses" in the same day. You're more narrow-minded than the people you're accusing.

Yeah, I think this album is a hard one as well, though there are some nice moments on it.

I believe that Merzbow must have had a good laugh while releasing this.

I doubt that, he must be quite proud, how many artists can say they have a box set of that size...?

i think we're both narrow-minded in a sense. i don't know merzbox and i'm nigh on certain that ryan patrick doesn't know billy joel.

so he should be proud because it's a big boxset? i don't see how that's anything to be proud of at all.
