I watched some concert of his on TV the other day and a lot of it was rather enjoyable. I know many people consider him a musical genius, and I'm aware of the tremendous amount of material he has put out, so I figured maybe it's time to get a little acquainted...
So, is he actually any good? Any recommendations? |

Yes, actually he is any good. Get Sign of the Times, or just Purple Rain to start with. I've listened to it since I was eight or so and still it doesn't bore me when I listen to it nowadays.

if you wanna get a flavour of what he's like pick up either Hits I or Hits II - surprisingly good greatest hits packages that cover most of his best work. i started off with them and got into him enough to start picking up his studio albums one by one. faves are: Purple Rain 'Symbol' - just has that stupid squiggle on the front Sign O' The Times if you just wanna download some songs to start you off, i'd go with: (albums in brackets) take me with U/ when doves cry (purple rain) Adore/ i could never take the place of your man (sign o the times) money don't matter 2 night/ cream (diamonds and pearls) my name is prince / 7 (symbol) betcha by golly wow (emancipation) sometimes it snows in april (under a cherry moon_ |

Thank you both.
I downloaded all of "Purple Rain" (listening to it now) and numerous other tracks. I think I need to learn to ignore the 80s feel/sound of it first, though (as I'm not a big fan of that decade and it sounds rather dated), but the music itself definitely sounds promising so far... |

),"my name is prince","get off", "thunder" you should also try this bunch for another view. |

PURPLE RAIN or 1999 are the best non-compilation albums to start with, while SIGN O' THE TIMES is excellent and complex.
download: the beautiful ones my name is prince head pope how come you don't call me anymore |

Dirty Mind is the best Prince album, but really, you can't go wrong with most of his recorded 80s output. It's all good.
