Lightbulb SP Songs that you can "relate to"

A lot of you will dis this topic an some lame o-board crap (I probably would too normally) and I'm sure its been done before but I think some of the responses would be interesting to hear. I might be in a weird mood though.

What SP songs can you personally relate to or identify with? I don't think I've ever related to any but I guess there are a couple such as Cherry and In The Arms of Sleep. And Pennies. I'll do some more thinking on this later, I have to get to work.

I'm sure you guys have a buttload of them.

Also, describe the parts you relate to and that type of thing.

Whoopee. :erm

PS: I am not lame.

Hm. I could relate to a lot of the angry songs way back in the day when I was silly and angsty.

I think the reason that I only listen to Siamese Dream and Adore is that, besides just being beautiful albums, I can relate to the themes on both of those albums. They seem a lot more mature than Mellon Collie, TAFH, Gish, or Machina. I think. Like the theme of death and loss in Adore....anyone can relate to that. And the themes of angst and depression in Siamese Dream, which may seem immature, but they are presented in a tasteful way on that album, I think.

Who knows.

Pennies - pretty much the whole thing I can relate to. One of those songs that "came out" at the right time.

Try, Try, Try (Machina 2) - the first 2/3rds of it; "it flows down the back of this bitter son, desperate for love and loves everyone" and "at 13, i lost my compass, but i know it's all accomplished" especially

Galapagos - "tell me are you still, the man i'm supposed to be?" and then the music is just, in my opinion, the most beautiful music they ever wrote

Like...take angst in Disarm vs. Bullet With Butterfly Wings.

"Disarm you with a smile, and leave you like they left me here, to whither in denial."

VS.

"Despite all my rage, I am still just a rat in a cage."

See?

See?
Yeah Disarm has more.. something to it.. reality? and rat in a cage is just.. abstract or something.. not as "deep". Words are failing me atm, sorry.

That got out? Hahah I couldn't remember. I wasn't entirely satisfied with whether it "worked" as a whole. She wasn't the greatest babe but she fit well enough.

I have a Saturnine and something else in the works possibly in the near future. I thought In The Arms of Sleep and especially Mouths of Babes really worked well.

I am liking this thread. I'm going to go through the albums later and pick out some of the songs I related to in some way.

What do you see pennies as being about? I had this whole elaborate meaning worked out regarding the pennies for sale a few years ago. I'll see if I can remember it later.

Its nice to have a more mature thread going on here. A welcome change.

yeah, Pennies was awsome. Right time for me too.

The Fates *were* cruel for throwing us together.

All the world must know / that i loved you so / especially when you'd go. etc. etc. etc.

Well, the song as a whole, I thought was about a guy singing to his ex-girlfriend who he's clearly not over. He's tried to move on (I've got a new girlfriend) but he can't get over her (she looks alot like you, dear, no one could ever do, dear). There's a sort of resignation to the song like that he doesn't think he can change things anymore, but that he still feels the need to talk about it.

As for the "pennies for sale" part, I guess I always thought of the old "penny for your thoughts" saying, so I guess he's saying he has lots of thoughts about her/life-in-general, and he's not holding back, he's letting them out.

I'm probably way off but I always thought the pennies for sale part was Billy belittling Penelope (his sort of mom like figure who for awhile looked after him as a kid). . which fits the lines "and you say the fates were cruel for throwing us together". But as a whole the song to me is more about taking a jab at an exgirlfriend, I think there's a sarcastic tone to the whole song, esp in the lines "it's a pity we're apart", and "that i loved you so, especially when you'd GO AWAY and leave me here". I guess in a twisted way, that's pumpkin humour.
