Question Favorite Pearl Jam song writer.

I realize the other day that very few bands have as many songwriters as pearl jam. This creates a lot of deversity in their music but it also begs the question, who writes the best songs?

Cameron? He also wrote You Are, which is an incredible tune, and his side project shit is awesome.

For my two cents I would have to say Vedder or Gossard, with a caveat: early Gossard. His early stuff was incredible, up until the No Code era.

Vedder wrote most of the best non-Ten songs though.. from the rockers (RVM, MFC, State of Love and Trust, Corduroy, Grievance, Insignificance, Betterman (when he was 16, no less) etc) to the ballads (Long Road, I Got Shit, Thumbing My Way, Present Tense).

I still don't get why. It had a few songs that got a ton of radio play (Given To Fly, Wishlist) and was an all around awesome album.

It didn't sell as well because a lot of people bought No Code right away, without thinking about what an utter dissapointment it would be... also, around that time the band decided that their "radio singles" would be the worst album tracks. Hell, they won't even play the first single off of No Code anymore in concert (Who You Are).

Now i've only heard 5 of the PJ albums, but I'd give the best to Yeild far and away. I listen to it about 3X as often as my other two PJ cds.

No Code is amazing...it just is difficult to comprehend for someone who listens to Ten and Vs. Kind of like Adore is to the average Pumpkins fan who only has Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie. I'm guessing the reason they won't play "Who You Are" anymore is because its a Jack Irons song-perhaps they feel uncomfortable playing it. They played a bit on the first leg of the Yield tour before Jack left the band, but haven't since he left. Which sucks, since its one of my favorite Pearl Jam songs.
