Thumbs down Evanescence cover "Zero"

Yesterday I couldn`t believe it when I was watching the performance of Evanescence at Rock am Ring Festival...they covered Zero and it was a pain in the ass to listen to it...can you imagine a woman SINGING the part"emptiness is loneliness, and lonneliness is cleanliness and cleanliness is godliness, and god is empty just like me..."
I had all the laughter on my side while walking around with my SP patch on the bag...well, it was more some kind of pity...

Not to be sexist, but, when women try to cover 99% of all Pumpkin songs, it ends up sounding really lame... especially the ones where Billy is all anger-crazed.

A friend and I always joke about how funny it is to hear his ex-girlfriend sing along to "Tales of a Scorched Earth," because "girlie-opera" just does not fit right with that song.

You know what's the most ironic and funny about this, though? Evanescence was once considered a "christian" band. God is empty now, eh? Fickle.

Actually, I'd say the most ironic and funny thing about it is that Zero is awesome and Evanescence are completely bent.

End.

The chick has a pretty good set of lungs on her (from just hearing their single, but God knows how digitally processed that is) but it just wouldn’t work for Zero at all. Still, an SP cover, horrible though it may be, shows that they aren't forgotten.

The Deftones need to cover SP songs. That would rule.

Evanescence also covered 'Heart Shaped Box' by Nirvana during a radio session eariler this year.

It was so funny, she sings it in an opera voice, it just made me pull my hair out in disgust while at the same time laugh at how terrible it was.

The chorus was the best, her high pitched squeeling.

Her covering Zero, I just can't imagine..

Good lord.
I don't think the point was that GIRLS shouldn't cover SP songs, just that chick from Evanescence shouldn't, especially Zero. Her voice is just too pretty for a song like that, and I'm sure it sounded like hell.
If she covered a song like Tonight Tonight? Maybe that would've been more suited for her.

I really don't understand how people fuck up covers on national television.

When I was in a band, we played loads of covers, but we never performed them until we thought they did the original justice. That was the bottom line. If the cover sucked, WE DIDN'T PLAY IT.

I really don't understand what's so difficult about preparing a song for performance that's already been written, arranged and recorded. What's even easier than that is realizing you suck at playing it.

Take some reading lessons, because no one actually said that women shouldn't cover Pumpkins songs.

Reyngel said that 99% of the time they sound lame, which is true. Most of the songs are crazy psycho rock shit. Which Billy rocks at, but, most women do not have the vocal capabilities to pull it off, especially not some overly produced nu-metal god loving hippie MTV sell outs going by a band name that is totally impossible to spell.

I really don't see why the need for all the attitude.. no one is out to supress the female race, because the females have already won.

Exactly. In fact, if you look at my original post, I even warned that I wasn't trying to be sexist. But it's still true.

Question

I just saw their video on tv. The guy sounds like a ripoff of the rapper guy in Linkin Park. And did she end up dying or was it just a dream?!?!?! Also, why didn't the other guys in the room try to help?! Bastards!

Billy's got this weird thing going with his voice... it's not quite a "man's" voice, and it's not quite a "woman's" voice. His voice sounds like a guitar to me.
