I don't know what is being sold anymore. I can talk about a funny commercial, and people will ask what it was for and I didn't even notice. That's a great way to advertise.

I rarely watch TV, but when commercials come on I usaually change to another channel

i just ignore them for the most part, but if i'm hungry and there's a commercial for food that looks good i might remember it later and buy it.. so i guess i'm influenced by them a bit.
