Um, I find it kind of hard to believe that someone with a 35/1540, valedictorian of a class of nearly 800 and 800/800/700 on the SATII with extracurriculars would get rejected from nearly every school they applied to. You're saying it's because you didn't do enough "volunteer work"?

There's something fishy about that story. I could see getting rejected from one school - that happens. But "nearly every" school?

Pssshhh.

Sigh.

Please don't talk to me as if I know nothing about the admissions process. Believe me, I do. Alright? A 1200 won't get you anywhere anymore. Sorry.

YOU HAVENT BEEN IN COLLEGE YET. HOW MANY SHOOLS HAVE YOU APPLIED TO?! YOU ARE FRESH OUT OF HIGH SCHOOL, SHUT UP.
I graduated 2 years ago, I think 1100 was the minimum for most State schools. Do some research.

*shrug* I got a 1430 and was a National Merit Semi-Finalist (I never actually got around to filling out the paperwork, hence the 'semi')...and I didn't know any of that shit. I didn't even know that was a good score until I mentioned it to some of my friends and they got all wide-eyed all gasped at me.

Doing well on the SATs doesn't necessarily imply that you spent a whole lot of time in highschool researching and obsessing over admissions standards and whatnot. (I did a little of that, but I spend most of my college-admissions period freaking out over how the hell I was going to write an interesting Personal Essay. And how to get my mother to stop screaming at me.) It just means that you happened to be good at the only thing the SATs test for: The ability to take the SATs.

Actually he's fresh into high school.

Eulogy, you have changed recently into a faux know-it-all shithead. Don't claim to know more about things than other people who have been through it.

yeah, i think this is eulogy's point too: applying to college today is way different than applying ~12 years ago. i really don't think it matters that you've gone through the process and he hasn't, because they're not even the same process anymore.

btw, i applied to 7 schools, and got rejected from 5: harvard, yale, princeton, and mit gave me the all-out axe; stanford put me on their waiting list, and led me on for another couple months before they gave me the final axe.

Once again.

I know plenty about the college admissions process. I have a sibling. An older one. The last two years of my life, every single conversation I've had with any of my family members has been about the college admissions process. Alright?

Jesus christ.

I wasn't aware that 'almost any school in the country' referred only to most state schools.

A 1200 will not get you into almost any school in the country, which is what the guy fucking said and what I replied to. That's all I said.

You guys need to relax.

No safety schools? Tsk.

As for applying 11 yrs ago, no, not much has changed. I do have siblings and friends. The process is essentially the same. I know what it was like then, I know what it's like now. I lived with a college student for the last 3 years up until a couple of months ago.

I'm still involved.

Thank you.

I'm willing to bet I know more about the current state of the admissions process than many people who have actually gone through it.

Haha. Ok. You come back when you have applied to schools, and tell me if you knew the same amount of information that you knew from your older sibling.

Seriously. Relax and stop reading more into what I've said than you need to.

All I meant to say is that a 1200 SAT score won't get you into 'almost any school in the country.' Because it won't.

I have no idea what has crawled up your ass.

We are talking about your average university. Which constitutes much more of a percentage than your ritzy special schools. I don't think you understand what anyone is even referring to.

An SAT alone will NOT GET YOU INTO ANY SCHOOL ALONE. That is obvious. But when it comes to the portion of the SAT's they do put into weight of you getting in, 1200 is fine.

Yes it will. The schools that somaddict listed were Harvard, Yale, etc.

Somehow, I don't classify those in the class of most schools in the country.

Christ.

Well then I misunderstood what he meant by 'almost any school in the country.'

But hey. You both seem to be wasting far too much evergy on this.

i'm sorry- what?
just because a 1200 won't get you into west point or harvard or whatever, that doesn't mean that the majority of schools within this country wouldn't accept a 1200.
in fact, a 1200 will get you into the majority of private universities within the US, not to mention any UC, state university, ect.
yale and harvard are not the only schools in america, you know, and they aren't the only reputable ones either.
in fact, most schools are opting to accept the ACT as well as the SAT, and many students that i know here at the university never even took the SAT, because they chose to take the ACT instead.
not to mention the fact that i knew someone who had a 1500 SAT, but because of the fact that he had no extrcurricular activities under his belt, and he also wrote a very poor admissions essay might i add, he was rejected from UCLA.
1500 SAT! and they did not accept him.
so, yeah. the SAT is not THE SHIT. don't delude yourself. always remember one thing: everything they ever told you about college is probably wrong.

What would you classify as most schools in the country?

Because a 1200 isn't enough for any first tier school, and probably not for several second tier schools.

But yeah, nevermind. I give up.

Question

is that the way you have a discussion? blame the others who have points and not general statements like "I know more than all of you about this, believe me" that they are wasting energy?

Actually, you're right. Talking to you is kind of talking to a brick wall. Which a waste of energy.
