Plus, I could hear Keanu Reeves say, "I know kung fu" a million times, and it'll never stop being funny. Edit: I'm pretty sure the second and third ones are going to be negligible, though I'll probably see them. Last edited by sawdust restaurants : 05-05-2003 at 02:32 AM. |

I think what people appreciate the most about the Matrix franchise is that its something fresh and new compared to most action blockbusters nowadays. Last year's biggest blockbuster was based on a comic book from another era, as are two other action/adv movies from this year that are also expected to be a couple of top draws. People appreciate new standards in film and recognize and respect originality when they see it.

I think my favorite thing about the matrix is that its all of these elements of corners of geek culture that the mass audience never really sees. Anime, Kung Fu movies, comic books, philsophical sci-fi just sort of mashed up into a blender and comes out at The Matrix. The kooky part is that it connects with a mass audience, once they see all of the geek-culture shit all loaded up into a single hypodermic shot.
Anyhoo, I find the visuals are always really nifty and gotta give the flick credit for having a bit of a mindfuck/ philsophical "what is reality" / biblical twist to it. that being said, I think they blew thier wad on any good biblical or "I think therefore I am" analogies in the first flick, which leads me to believe that the sequels will really just be more of a visual extravanagza and not have as much stuff to ponder over. More of a McMovie than the first one. |

I am going to see it, simply because the effects just look like it'll be a great visual movie. i don't think i'll see it in theaters, considering I rarely go to the theater and have other movies in mind for that first, but.. yeah. I do want to see it.
