But you would like to, from the safety of your home computer, type out a few words of kindness and think that that automatically makes you morally noble. Right? Maybe the rest of us just aren't as emotionally numbed as you are. I truly do feel sorry for her, and I do truly wish her strength and healing. Maybe you're just too cynical to understand that ?

And it doesen't make me feel noble. I don't do things for entirely selfish reasons. From the way you act, i would guess you do... you don't always have to GET something just for giving/expressing something. maybe if you stepped out of your self-absorbed world and stopped focusing on how miserable you are, you might notice that there are others, and that sometimes talking to/sympathizing with others can make your own problems seem less significant

hearing someone's parent is dead

+ thinking about your parent is dead

+ thinking how horrible that would be

+ realizing that a horrible thing actually happened to a real person who has to go through with what would be your nightmare

= sympathy

Its not to get on a moral soapbox and preach, its geunie feeling. I mean, there's no way you can hear about that and NOT feel any kind of sympathetic feeling on some level for a person.

I think (I could be wrong) what twice was saying was the fact that, not saying she is, but miss world can definately be lying and none of us would know. Obviously we are all giving our sympathy because we assume this situation to be true, but she was just stating the fact that it could be a lie. Anyone can lie on the internet because it is the anonymous internet. I could be some hairy 40 year old man for all you guys know (well except for the few that know me irl, they know I'm just a hairy 18 year old boy ).

I'm sorry, but this is exactly what I was talking about. People saying 'I was joking, I'm a nice guy really, I'd never do anything like this in real life' as if it makes any difference to the person on the receiving end. If you find it entertaining to make jokes about someone's Dad dying, in a thread they posted about it, only hours after it taking place, then that's reflecting something of your personality. Something which normal social circumstances usually prevent you from showing.

Hardly any of us have a reason to believe that miss world would lie about a thing like this. I think thats where the "selective sympathy" that Mayfuck was talking about comes in. There are a few people that I'm sure we would assume they're lying. Which is why we are assumed to be giving out selective sympathy.

Anyhow, I always assume that what someone is telling me is true unless I find out otherwise. I guess that I'm just a little too trusting, but I'm sure a lot of others do the same.
