the main point I was bringing up was against the preconceived notion that women shallowly date men with money because of money.
that's what many guys will come up with to explain why in the world can some fat old average-looking guys end up with hot girls.

but what i am saying is that someone who has attained financial success (i.e. rich) will usually have an entrepreneurial personality, which translates into being at once adventurous, hard-working, charismatic, and self-confident, which are all qualities that solicit attraction.

(they may have a lot of shortcomings but they have qualities that attract other people, and especially will make them act on it)

so the matter is not really a chain of cause to effect such as:
entrepreneur -> money && money -> GIRLS!!

but more like the same cause is creating two different effects:
entrepreneur -> money
entrepreneur -> girls

financial stability is an indicator of a grounded individual, to me. which for a single parent nearing 30 is absolutely essential. i don't have time or any desire to pursue people with an incompatible lifestyle. i definitely don't mean i'm only interested in rich guys/girls, but the inability to pay rent or keep gas in the car speaks to their priorities (in most cases) and i don't have time for it anymore.

Valuing financial prospects in a mate isn't any worse than valuing physical attraction, imo. It's only at the point that these things take precedence over personality, behaviours, and values that they become "gold-digging" or being shallow.

I don't think there is anything wrong with it being important to a person at all. I understand being in a relationship with someone who has money issues can be a serious drag and doesn't just affect the one person. Obviously other factors like already having a family to support make it even more important.

But what fuzzy was saying is that when you hit 30, the only thing women care about is a guy who can make a big paycheck, which is stupid as shit.

I know this to be true, but in the metropolitan US and I imagine right over the line in Canada as well, the stigma is very severe. There are Trump-specific dating apps which have been created in response to Trumpsters being abjectly shunned on tinder and okcupid for mentioning their political leanings

On tinder here, just about every 3rd profile says something about no Trump supporters, and you have to swipe hundreds of times before you find someone who openly likes Trump on their profile. I know that there are a lot more Trump supporters than that out there, even in a liberal city, so I'm pretty sure it's that if you voice support for this administration, you are roundly shunned on dating apps. I actually even read an article in Washington Post about Trumpers whining that their dating prospects have been destroyed since the election

I have dated conservatives in the past and I have probably been more lenient than most liberals in terms of my beliefs about how much of one's worldview you have to have in common with a romantic partner, but in this age, there is literally no way I would ever date a Republican, or even really be friends with one, and I know that most people of my demographic feel similarly.
