Speaking of which, I played another couple of rounds and think I've settled on a preferred formation:

Vestal > Plague Doctor > Crusader > Hellion vs. [moribund collection of oft-stunned reprobates]

My approach is to focus on crowd control and buffs, where the Plague Doctor mostly dishes out stuns and boosts the damage of those front two. From the back, the Vestal alternates the stuns and heals as required. When faced with harder-headed foes, the back pair respectively switch to blighting and general damage output. Early days and all, but a Man-at-Arms also seems to work as a Crusader substitute.

vestal's stun sucks i've found. it's not reliable at higher levels but that's just what it seems like to me. other than that sounds like you've got a righteous group

i decided to start the game over because i had very high level people but i couldn't beat the first darkest dungeon level (the actual DD) no matter what i tried. so i figured i'd start over and try a wider range of parties and really get some strategy going. i also realized that it is much more expensive to lock in positive traits at high levels... so it's a thin line to walk, and you spend way more money on other aspects by doing it this way, but i'm going to try to cultivate heroes from low level this time around and lock in good quirks ASAP. to that end, i've decided to do all level 1 short dungeons with an antiquarian and gather lots of money/loot.

also having fun with a mark party, houndmaster/bounty hunter/grave robber/occultist. occultist can mark, plus healing of course, and can lower prot/dodge on enemies. no stress healer but since 3 out of 4 can hit the back rows getting the stress healers early is pretty cake

I've read the former. I don't think the latter is out yet, though I have read the stuff in lost tales, the longer version of tuor's story.
