Last time I went sober I figured I'd get drunk for Canada day and then only drink when the occasion called for it, but in no time I was drinking like 5 or 6 times a week again... Not always big amounts, but enough to at least rock a buzz. I just really don't think I could be one of those guys who never drinks cause I really value the special occasions out with friends at a concert or party, but I think where the problem lies is that I drink alone a lot.

Bangkok is in Thailand, where they speak Thai. Although to be fair, knowing Chinese might be good practice for some of the difficult tones.

Anyway good luck with ditching the drinking! Sobriety isn't horrible, but for me it definitely changed my sense of humor. Kinda unexpected actually.

i think you can hold out hope that one day you can drink again. i do the same thing for smoking weed. but i know it can't be soon

Yeah, I mean at one time I could drink a 3 beers and have the time of my life out on the town... If I really wanted to push the boundaries i could drink a 40 and that would be getting drunk for me. But as time went on I'd be crushing a 6 pack of Colt 45 before work and be completely fine. It's absurd to think about that with some clarity and how that kind of thing became a regularity for me.

you're an alcoholic dude. i'm a drug addict. if it helps to think maybe one day you can drink again (and maybe that's true), then good. but one day means a long time. not a month or a year.

I don't smoke weed at all, no. I don't want the fumes around my kid AT ALL and also don't have free time to leave and go smoke. It's not a priority for me anymore, and it's just not something I can dedicate time or money to for the foreseeable future. Maybe when she's an adult and out of the house, idk. And I technically drink on occasion. I had one margarita on my birthday a week ago and a small bottle of wine on Thanksgiving. Nothing in between. Then again I've never been an alcoholic so a drink or two spaced months apart is something I can do without stress.

Awful timing, too. I went out dancing at another Gothic-rock night with some friends, one of them a new one that I recently met and was hanging out with for the first time. Seeing as I invited her to a thing with friends, I was interpreting it as just a friendly outing, but she made it clear that she had something else in mind while we were dancing. She invited me back to her place, but we decided to get high with my other friends at their place first.

That was a dumb idea on my part. I thought it would prevent me from getting nervous at my new friend's place, but after that one hit, I realized I was in no condition to do anything that requires exertion. Then I got sick, so my first impression with this new girl is being that guy who spent hours in a bathroom after a single hit, foiling and killing her anticipations.

I find it too amusing to really be all that disappointed, though. It's like a sitcom gag.

Congratulations on your sobriety.

I don't think alcoholics can drink "in moderation." They can't handle it. They can't stop at just a couple. That's what makes them alcoholics.

Maybe one day, you will no longer be an alcoholic. I don't know if there comes a point where your physiology and psychology becomes similar enough to that of somebody whose never been an alcoholic to allow you to drink without relapsing. But you're not at that point yet.
