Maybe the difference is seen when you look at the mean vs. when you look at the median?

The mean is higher than the median, because for men at least, there is a small portion of men who pull up the average by having way more partners than the rest, I've read.

of course counting makes sense, but i wouldn't start to count unless being asked for a scientific survey. i said once, when i was still acting, that's like asking me how many plays i've been in... i'm pretty sure it's less than 20 but i wouldn't know the exact number off the top of my head. and i happen to be monogamous.
