you could probably just read chap 4 by itself and get most of it without reading the previous parts of the book. i mean you def lose some context but the history itself is really interesting and the author's exploration of possible reasons why these things have declined/vanished or at least gone underground (like torture, looking at you George W. Bush) in just a few hundred years. also a good history of human sacrifice (like, literal human sacrifice)

Accomplishment is such a charged term.

Some people go through their entire lives and don't feel they 'accomplished' anything.

yesterday i went to the gym, which is an accomplishment in itself what with how hard it can be to motivate myself to go lately. i climbed the equivalent of 103 flights of stairs and did 100 leg presses (25@90 pounds, 25 @100, 25@110, and 30@120). i also did 36 military presses and 3 pull ups. i almost felt like ralphing, but i felt good.

had classes from 8-11. transcribed about half of a lecture, took me like 2 1/2 hours. still have to do the rest. then i studied today's materials, all about the different types of aphasias (language disorders) inlcuding signs and symptoms, etiology, what parts of the brain are affected, etc

then i had another class at 4 and now it's 7pm and i drove for an hour to another campus and my last class of the day is about to start

I was credited as the second-most calm evacuee in the wake of a relatively minor plane crash.

Only some eleven-year-old kid died, though I honestly don't feel that being crushed by the drinks cart really counts as an aviation fatality.

My sister withdrew from her classes. She's on another trip downhill and I don't know how or what to do to stop it. I'm just waiting for the day where I found out she has passed
