do you think plants feel, register pain, or are sentient/'alive' in any way?
They have chemical reactions to trauma. I remember an experiment where some Arabidopsis (this is a mustard that grows easily and fast and is used in many experiments- it has even had its entire genome sequenced) plants were placed in a confined space with an abused (like a leaf was cut off) and fellow Arabidopsis plants would respond, because the abused one released chemicals that the others could detect. As in, the plants were communicating via chemical signals. Afaik many plants do this. I am not sure that counts as sentient, or feeling... but keep in mind that we've defined what qualifies as sentient.

Plants are very much alive. When I say that they manipulate and exploit animals for sexual purposes I am not kidding. It's Frost-esque at times

if i were to grow a certain plant indoors, what would be the best way to make sure it was of the best possible quality without having to invest in expensive equipment?

I wish I could come up with some flowery frases quickly for you. In lieu I can suggest all of J newsom's Ys. Stuff like: "scrap of sadsafras, eh sisyphus?" And "yarrow, heather, and hollyhock awkwardly molt along the shore" and the best one: "peonies nods in the breeze while they wetly bow. With hydrocephalitic listness-ness ants mop up their brow". I like that one because a wet peony flower is like a sponge and the buds secrete a nectar which attracts ants which keep pests to the peony at bay. A type of symbiotic relatipnship

If I am getting this right... The problem with growing it indoors is that you will definitely need supplemental (full spectrum) light, so a specific product, and only for so many hours a day. Also, keep neem oil around at the least. Because they're dioecious, you will not know until sexual maturity and budding whether or not you'll want to keep it around. One is not really enough. I would do at least 5. Other than that, fertilizer and a good substrate is a must, as well as specific pruning to ensure heavy budding.

note that had the ant somehow died elsewhere, though - the fungus would not trigger, and nothing would happen.

You could probably do it for $300 at most. Get a good seed supplier though. I say all this as an amateur.

Yes. Cordyceps. Different species prey on different insects/arachnids. Arent some of the fruiting bodies (what emerges from the host after death to spread spores) eaten in China?

THESE R NOT PLANTS THO. 4 the record

Do you wanna believe they're alive then you're allowed to feel this way. Prions aren't alive but I'm equally as weary of them

I dont believe any one plant is inherently bad, but in context I'll find myself cursing microstegium or japanese knotweed because they're invasive species.

I have posted about this! I don't like much other than tropical cacti (Hatiora, Schlumbergera, Rhipsalis), African Violets, Orchidaceae, Hoya, and some ferns (Davallia is the best one). Peperomia sometimes ok. Most others sold as houseplants are either arums (toxic) or not actually able to be grown indoors easily. Staghorn ferns ok.

What are you looking for? Ease? Flowers? Greenery? Scent?

Even the sunniest windowsills arent enough for most plants. I find plants like Dracaena or Diffenbachia to be super boring and I believe both (the latter very) are toxic too
