on the bus i sat next to a man who "discreetly" took a photo of a girl across the aisle. i was offended for her and by the fact he thought he could get away with it. i said loudly 'why are you taking pictures of her?' and he said it was an accident. i said 'don't fucking lie. that wasn't an accident. HEY, EXCUSE ME. THIS PERVERT JUST TOOK A PHOTO OF YOU.'

then he tried apologizing to her and i said 'delete it if you're sorry'

There was a campus alert issued for a man who snapped an upskirt photo while he and a woman were climbing stairs. Some other dude saw him and reported him and informed the victim.

Respect. It takes balls for a woman to speak up to a man like that when she runs the danger of him attacking her, following her home, etc. Glad it didn't end that way. And also, fuck that guy.

Not so luckily, i've seen it happen a bunch of times in buses that guys will stand behind girls and just hump them with the excuse of "hey the bus is full, there's nowhere for me to stand but here" or "that turn really made me bump my junk into your ass". Gross stuff.

My sister lived in Boston for a few years and said she just got used to people getting gross with her on the train.

Makes me sad that anyone would have to "get used to" being violated on a regular basis.

My strategy is to put my purse to my back, so it acts as a shield. It's a shitty consideration to have to make, but it works.
Either way, that's part of the reason I just prefer walking everywhere as much as I can.

Late night cab drivers can also be super repulsive and downright scary. I would not recommend taking cabs past 11 alone here.
The last time I actually had no option but to get a cab by myself guy kept going on and on about how he was not scared to hit women and talking about many times in his life where he did so. I was livid the entire ride.
