I really don't think I am. I mean, I'm not ugly, just unremarkable. I don't have a fancy haircut or stupid facial jewelry or neck tats or anything that would make me worth gawking at.

I don't know why, but I am totally unfazed by being stared at or attracting attention in a foreign country, as is inevitable when you are a white person with a camera and a backpack. in the US though, staring would freak me out. I guess because like FlamingGlobes is saying, it's unclear why someone might be staring at you.

A few months ago I was in the supermarket and this older guy was intently staring at me, kind of maliciously. He had a weird little smile on his face like he knew something I didn't know or was going to do me harm. It was seriously unsettling. I felt his eyes follow me as I walked around the produce section. I met his gaze directly a few times and eventually started scowling at him, and nothing broke his gaze. I walked past him again on the other side of the store and he was doing to same shit. I have this weird thing where although I am usually really passive and non-confrontational, if I feel threatened I can become the opposite. I gave him this really fuck you look and did a blatant come at me thing by jutting my chin out, I don't know how to describe this movement of body language but you would know what I meant if you saw me do it. Walked by him with my cart and just kept looking right into his eyes as I was approaching, he finally averted as I went by him. Then I felt weird, like I had cowed him and done something wrong, even though he was being a fucking creep.

guess this is how women feel every day

And it's not like people are *always* looking at me, it's just when they do, I tend to notice and the rage starts building inside.

BTW, just so you guys know, I am totally aware that being annoyed by people visibly looking at me is MY problem to solve/get over, not everyone else's.

yeah when you consider what women have to go through, it's really just incredible how little you hear about it from them.

a considerable percentage of guys are just fucking awful. it must really suck for girls to have us as the other sex they need to deal with.

Yeah, it seems that other companies are cashing in on the opportunity to provide AeroPress-specific accessories. I use this one, though there appear to be others.

I had to learn the hard way that you're meant to place it with the text facing towards the coffee, as the holes are smaller on that side and placing it the other way around leads to fairly immediate clogging.

once I was walking down the street with my ex and I had my finger wrapped around one of the belt loops on her jeans. this guy drove by slowly honking at us like crazy and wagging his finger, I guess he thought I was grabbing her ass or something. I flipped him off and yelled at him to HEY BUDDY MIND YOUR FUCKIN BUSINESS

my ex was genuinely shocked. she was like as a woman I honestly don't know how you can get so upset over a random person bothering you in public

re: diet
I have a disgusting diet of mostly candy these days. I have pretty much zero self-control around food. When I was trying to lose weight, I shot for a 500-calorie deficit. Each time I try to get back on the wagon, I last for a shorter duration before I fall off again, and the intervals between getting back on get longer. It's at the point where if I tell myself, "today I'm going to not eat like a slob," I can't even follow through on that commitment for that single day. I've just given up, I don't give a shit what I put in my body anymore.

re:coffee
I drink a lot of coffee I guess. My caffeine tolerance is really high now. I used to be really on-edge if I drank an energy drink. Now I can have two in a day and still sleep like a baby. I've fallen asleep during lectures while holding an energy drink in my hand. I don't really like energy drinks at all, I just drink them for the caffeine. I much prefer coffee. Usually drink it black.

re:the gym
I haven't gone in maybe a month now because I am so overwhelmed by school.

re:looking at people in public
There's a difference between looking and learing, IMO. If somebody is being odd, I'll sneak some peeks. If somebody has something interesting about them, like they are nicely dressed or something, I'll catch some glimpses. I try not to, like, just stare people down, though.

At the gym, though, I try to make zero eye contact with anybody and not look in anybody's direction. Especially women's, because they are in their workout clothes and whatnot and I feel like they'll feel like I'm checking them out. I've already heard plenty of stories from women about dudes purposely working out really close to them and invading their space, trying to hit on them, trying to "spot" them during exercises without their solicitation, etc. I've even heard a few of them note how the only time these dudes seem apologetic is when they realize that she has a male workout buddy, and then the dudes apologize to him.

And, come on, the gym would be the least strategic place for a Play-Doh guy like me to try to hit on people even if I thought a gym were an appropriate setting for that. The place is full of tall, fit dudes, making me look even grosser by comparison. It would be like trying to sell people Gary Larson and Scott Adams cartoons at an art gallery where Goya and Pollock pieces are hanging on the wall.

Good comment Disco King. I look at people in public for sure, and take note of features, apparel, jewelry etc. This is all normal because I do it out of curiosity or because I'm forced to on a crowded train. This is very differently from leering at others pervertedly. I don't know why this is so hard to understand?

I'm not talking about staring creepily. You said you hope no one notices people in public, I'm saying people are always noticing each other. it was not meant as an affront to you.

I could drink a billion energy drinks and not get the shakes but black coffee (of which I drink copious amounts daily) never fails. I drink extremely fresh and high quality coffee tho

Since few people walk around with their eyes closed it seems like your comment was redundant and added nothing

The other day at the supermarket, girl at checkout was totally sizing me up while she bagged my grosseries. I thought to myself "ugh, you bitch" then after she was done I smiled and said "have a good day".

Did you give her the motion to your eyes with your fingers, the "hey, up here!"?

For what it's worth and not to get in the middle of something, I was the one who spun the conversation in a different direction. What me, redbullseagull and others were discussing went beyond the "being stared down in a creepy way" and into the paranoid "what is everyone looking at? STOP LOOKING AT ME SWAN!" territory.

Not really, it was the top to bottom judgemental look, and she did it repeatedly as if I didn't notice.

I was just trying to buy some grossies, no need to feel judged.

This brings me to another pet peeve (I have so many peeves that they aren't pets so much as they are full-fledged family members at this point): when the cashier comments on what I'm buying. Especially when it's mockery for buying something unhealthy.
