I don't have a problem with reading a long post if the topic is interesting to me.

I find it harder to respond to something long though instead of something with a few easily identifiable points, especially in the fast-paced world of the intrawebs

Vigorous writing is concise. This requires not that the writer make all his sentences short, or that he avoid all detail and treat his subjects only in outline, but that every word tell.

Many expressions in common use violate this principle:

the question as to whether = whether (the question whether)

there is no doubt but that = no doubt (doubtless)

used for fuel purposes = used for fuel

he is a man who = he

in a hasty manner = hastily

this is a subject which = this subject

His story is a strange one. = His story is strange.

The expression "the fact that" should be revised out of every sentence in which it occurs.

reminds me a lot of a quote i love: “I didn’t have time to write a short letter, so I wrote a long one instead.” I've heard it attributed to Pascal, Twain, and Locke, but it's just a good reminder to give each word a job when you edit and edit again.
